Odometre not working properly.

Odometre not working properly.
I bought a 94 4Runner from one of those second hand car dealerships. Apparently my friends told me that I got a good deal. The bad news is that my odometre is not working properly. I works but it's too slow. For every 1 Kilometre that I drive, my odometre reads about 0.3. What can I do? How can I fix it? Thanks!!

First of all welcome to Yotatech, Second, how are you measuring this? highway markers or gps or previously measured distance? If none of the above, then use one of these to get your true measurement.

I have a Honda Prelude that I bought brand new. I drove the same distance with both vehicles. The truck was originally from California and when it came to Canada, they converted the Instrument Cluster from Miles to Kilometres.

It's possible that the dealer rolled-back the odometer, and that's when it started having problems. I would get a carfax report on it, and it may pay for its self pretty quick.
Sorry, no help on fixing the odometer thing though. Maybe try pulling out the dash component, and putting in a new one off ebay.

Hey Caffeine thanks for the Ebay link. I have the carfax report on it and it looks good. I think what happened was that when they changed the instrument cluster to metric, the odometre cable remained set to miles. (I think) I was think of getting a new speedo cable but i'm no mechanic. I'm wondering if a 1995 Toyota 4Runner instrument cluster would fit in mine considering they're the exact same truck just different year.
