Not starting

So just had to start to learn my 89 3.0 and now I'm stumped. Here we go just built a new bumper for it 2 days ago and didn't unhook the battery when we welded on it but ran great untill it just died no sputtering or any thing just dead. Took a look around and the power steering pully had rubbed through the battery ground replaced it cranks but no start. Checked for spark nothing. I got 12v in the wire going to the distributer cap but not sure if that is relavent. Just went and got a new cap and roter going to replace it tomorrow but kind of new to wrenching on engines but I'm not holding my breath on the new cap am roter. Anything else I should be looking at?

Update so I used a volt meter to test from the coil to the cap. After reading a few post about this topic I did the spark test on the same wire and no spark so going to get a new coil. Things I've done or checked
New plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Rotor spins when cranked. And all fuses are intact no wire damage that I can see

Anything else I should be looking at

While it is possible you blew up the ECM, that's pretty rare. It's much more likely you blew a fuse somewhere, or burned through another wire (you already found one).

So, before you suspect the ECM, do the multimeter troubleshooting. My guess is that you will find no 12v there, and you'll be on your way to finding the problem.

ok so im might be being dull when it comes to this wiring, but I hate electrical I don't really understand it (yet) but I put a volt meter on the wire coming out of the coil going to the distributer and I have 12v but if I do the screwdiver in the end and hold it a 1/4 inch from a ground and crank no spark. pulled a spark plug wire did the screwdriver test again no spark (no surprise either had to prove it to someone else) where do I go from here. im don't understand how to read wiring schematics (again hopefully yet)
