So the fan pulley bracket (or whatever else we're calling it these days) broke and I'm trying to replace it. I have gotten to taking the timing belt cover off but there seems to be no way of getting off without removing the piece in the pic below. Not sure what it's called or how to get it off in order to get to the bracket... Not sure how to do this and would love any help.

I'm brand new at working on cars so making it dummy proof helps. Thanks in advance for the input. Also lots and lots of pic links or vid links are helpful too.

The studs thread out. Then slide it off.

So do I need like a star shaped socket or something to thread those studs out? Again sorry for my ignorance but I'm really new at this....

 

An appropriately sized 12-point should work.

Use some PB Blaster or other good penetrating oil on those studs before you try to remove them. Spray them tonight and try tomorrow is a good plan.

 

Thanks for the help. Got it replaced and putting it back together. Another rookie mistake, I didn't label the belts and pulleys. Is there a belt diagram for the 3.0 VZ-E? She's a 1990 4Runner with the stock engine. Thanks again.
