325,000 Miles - NO Smoke with Minimal Oil Consumption

Truck starts right-up (but NO Fast Idle Until Warm) rough idle. Idle is set above 1,000 to keep running. I shift (Automatic) manually to get up to speed. Has No power until 15 MPH, then Runs Strong quickly as I then shift to 2nd, then to 3rd (D) & runs great up to freeway speed. No "Check Engine" lights are on. Their is also a quick "Ping" upon take-off (only).

I just bought vehicle like this - thinking it's a simple fix ?

Torque converter maybe.

 

What is the ignition timing set to?

 

check condition of tranny fluid. i suspect its low or at least need to be changed. its probably time for a tranny filter/fluid change anyway with that many miles. as for the rough idle, check for vacuum leaks, properly set tps, afm, timing etc etc. good luck and keep us posted

 

also i would check for stored codes, even if the check engine light is not on
