No front drive when in 4X4
I removed a hub to replace my CV shaft, one of the boots was cut. After I was done and had replaced the hub I no longer have front drive in 4X4. I think it may be something to do with the hub clocking...any ideas? I have autolocking hubs. Thanks

Thanks leebee

I know the hub has to go on a certain way...but I can't figure how
.I'll have another look at the spring.

here is a link to the fsm i use:

look in the suspension and axle section, there is a detailed write-up for your manual locking hubs.
hope this helps.

that I should check the FSM

huntnfreak,
Care to stop by and give me a hand...I'm probably only a couple of thousand miles away.
You have described just what happened. I changed my left CV with auto hubs but the 4X4 will not work. I'm going thru the FSM with an eye on the spring. I think/thought
I put everything back in order but obviously something is not right with my thinker.
Thanks again everyone I owe you each a

Ok I've studied the FSM and I now have the hub body off the end of the CV. I haven't disassembled the hub and everything is moving around real well. So I'm going to rule out the spring for now. I'm still thinking it has something to do with the clocking/orientation of the hub body to where it mounts.
Can anyone give me additional information on this problem? Thanks in advance!

I have manual hubs, so I'm not real familiar with how yours works.
I had the same problem when I bought my truck. I toyed around
with different things for a while. Long story short, during a recent front
brake job done by the PO, a gear was intalled backwards when reinstalling
the driver side hub assembly, causing it not to engage fully.

If you've installed your hub incorrectly clocked, you've broken one of the ends of the spring. This spring isn't available separately from Toyota.
Both ends of the spring should stick out like this:

If they don't, you need to search out someone parting out some auto hubs, or change over to manual hubs. Too bad. Most of these great auto hubs have been broken just like yours.

I'll bet you're right on the money! I remember looking at it thinking
something's not right there. I'm gonna start looking for those springs. Thanks again!
