New Member that needs some help putting together 4Runner

I was given a project 4Runner from a buddy, a don't know much about it, and he didn't either.

Here's what I have.

1986 4Runner SR5 4x4 Turbo Automatic

To get it to run I need a computer, injectors, exhaust from the turbo down, re-install smog equipment, air intake system, and replace all vacuum lines.

Couple of Questions:

1. Where to get a 22RTE Computer?
2. What performance options are there to replace the missing air intake system from filter to turbo, to Intake manifold. (I still have the MAF)?
3. What performance injectors sre avaliable to replace the missing stock injectors?
4. What performance exhaust system ,would be best and replace all the missing parts?
5. Where can I get a technical service manual, or good manuals, so I know how to put all the smog equipment back and where all the vacuum lines go?

As you can see if I have to replace all this stuff I would prefer it to be performance products, to open up the air and exhaust, so I'm ready for a t3/t4 upgrade.

Thanks,
Chris

Thats always a good question. How about $1000 to $1250 for all the parts I listed.

1. Where to get a 22RTE Computer?
Ebay, the 22rte yahoo group, pirate4x4, or yotatech.
Expect to pay $100-$150

2. What performance options are there to replace the missing air intake system from filter to turbo, to Intake manifold. (I still have the MAF)?
Some people use a supra AFM and injectors, but this modification requires a good deal of tweeking and probably isn't a good place to start if the truck isn't running yet.

I'd replace the stock turbo before I even thought about messing with anything on the intake side.

3. What performance injectors sre avaliable to replace the missing stock injectors?
You can't change injectors to significantly from stock flow rates without significantly impacting the fuel delivery. The factory EFI isn't very flexible. Again, stick with stock or within 10% of stock if you want it to run right.
You can spend big bucks of "flow matched" injectors from LC or RC Engineering, but there are no advantages over a set of cleaned and balanced stock injectors.

4. What performance exhaust system ,would be best and replace all the missing parts?
For a turbo motor, less backpressure is better. 2.25 inches is fine with a stock turbo. You can go 2.5 or larger, but I see no advantage to doing so with a stock turbo.

5. Where can I get a technical service manual, or good manuals, so I know how to put all the smog equipment back and where all the vacuum lines go?
4x4wire.com - in the forums or buy a FSM (factory service manual) from your dealer.

As you can see if I have to replace all this stuff I would prefer it to be performance products, to open up the air and exhaust, so I'm ready for a t3/t4 upgrade.
From experience, I can't recommend a t3/t4 on a stock 22RE. Maybe if you got a really small one, like 50 trim with .48AR.
If you have a manifold, I'd adapt a CT26 from a stock turbo, which will bolt up with minor slotting of the holes. I'm told it will work the with the factory oil feed/drain.

If you want to run a Garrett, a t3 works great... Something between a .42/.48 (which will spool almost instantly) and a .60/.63. Common applications are Ford 2.3L motors.

Other advice:
1) Check your compression/leak down before throwing money into that thing.
2) Factory EFI works well until you start doing things like alternate AFMs, bigger injectors, or taking the boost up past 8psi.
3) I wouldn't pay more than about $400 for the parts you've listed... Just be patient or find someone parting a truck.

Thanks for the reply, I have used your website for info already. I think I will follow your ideas and just get all stock parts for cheap, and just make sure it all works fine first. Also it will make me apprciate any upgrades down the road.
