The starter again!

Hi everyone,

I know this has been covered over and over again but I am stumped!

I have the famous "click" "click" when you turn the key.

I do have the fsm and I did a lot of reading to get to this point.

I'm on my 3rd starter, this last one a new "rebuilt" from a dealer on ebay.

The tests with this last starter:

11.76 volts at the control connector under load.
11.40 volts at the starter main terminal under load.
I've replaced the contacts in the starter
I've cleaned pos and neg cables
I've changed the pos and neg cables

The only way I can get the starter to work is to use a wire directly between the control contact and the battery but my wire gets hot. I measured 16.7 amps drawn through the control wire.

Not sure what to do next...

stumped me....It's almost always the contacts. Unless there's something else. Ignition switch or something like that could be the culprit.

if i were you i would try the painless wiring hot shot relay. i changed my starter about a month ago due to the clicks, and four days later it was clicking again. i bought the hot shot relay kit about two weeks ago. after a very easy install my runner has started every time. its about $35 shipped but its much better than a starter install and has worked perfect so far to solve my clicker

Is this relay sealed? How does it work if you cross water?

Mine did that even after I bought a new starter. I found that the single solenoid wire wasn't making good enough contact, was a little loose. I cleaned it (wire side), clamped the connector a little tighter and it works great.
