Ed, the high seats are the best part of having a 4runner. Absolutely priceless when my kids would jump up to get in the 86 to clear the top of the seat, and then Bam! Lol. I think my daughter is a little off because of it haha. I had some Kia Minivan seats in the white one and they all folded flat. Wish I could have found another set of those but these 2nd gens are nice. Thanks for the inspiration to do it. Btw, I do have a perfect 2nd gen tan interior if you want, but you'll have to come get em it's only 3400 miles after all

[QUOTE=RAD4Runner;52360892]Tony,
While you're looking into carpet/vinyl, I'd like to throw this out there... This is low on my priorities but would like to throw it out there... I'm seriously considering replacing my dirt trapping carpet with diamond plate pattern rubber garage floor runner like this. Just not sure how manageable the 1/8-inch thickness would be. Really tough and cool pattern at that.

[QUOTE]

I'm in the process of using this same type of garage floor liner to do the full interior panels and probably the floor as well. Cheapest / best deal I saw was at home depot online.....about $100 for a 7.5'x14' roll shipped to your door.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-7-5-f...7?N=5yc1vZb97t

Here's a few shots of the panels in my '89 so far. Probably going to have to use a heat gun if I decide to do the floor as this stuff is thick and doesn't bend well.

Joel that looks really good. I had something like that on my 86. I'm ordering a set from RustEd when he's ready to put them into production

Nice! Thanks for the info.
I just plan to use it for the floor. I may either use a heat gun or simply trim and stick a backing with contact cement to create the contours. Even the stock carpet has cuts to make it fit around the tranny hump by the pedals and under the radio.
It would also be a great material to cover the whole back when rear seats are folded, and rolled when seats are upright. Would have to cut contours in and form a partial "bucket" around the wheel-well. I say partial because I'd like it to contain spills in front but allow them to readily drain toward the tailgate.

Slow and steady wins the race. No pics so it's a crappy update but I broke out my Grandpas old Bear Headlight Aligner and got my crappy halogens adjusted perfectly. They're still dim but spot on. I also repaired the wiring going to the deck light and it works! Ray, can you come to Florida instead of all those boring trip you make to awesome places and upgrade my wiring ?

LOL! While you're at your deck light did you mod it so you can turn it on even without having to turn tail lights on? (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52001801)

Got the passenger and cargo carpet from the 2nd gen installed today. Fit very well. It's stained up but it's so much more quiet and cooler inside

Took the cowl off the hood today. Pulled and vacuumed years of oak leaves, acorns, and dead lizards from it. No rust found inside. Also pulled the motor from the fan and got a basket full of crap from there as well. Now the fan is nice and silent and blowing like a champ. Time for an ac belt and hopefully a recharge. Yea right. Have a great weekend y'all.

Yeah that cowl grille is a poor design. I have a solution but no time to do it. THIS mounted / cable-tied right under the cowl grille.
I believe the compressor belt has been discontinued. I also need to find replacement for mine. Pls keep us posted what you find.

Ray that's a good idea for the cowl! I did notice that my truck actually had rust proofing from the dealer down in the cowl. Pleasant surprise that an employee at a dealership actually cared. I worked weekends at Jimmy Bryan Toyota in the 80's. When I bought my 86 4x4 pickup, 4runner, 87 MR2 and then my 88 2wd, I made sure I ran em to the back for extra rust proofing and undercoating the proper way. I'll let you know about the v-belts. I happen to have an assortment of nos Gates and Dayco belts at my house. Fingers crossed. Here some flashback photos of my then new rides. I just realized that my 79 Celica is behind my MR2

You had some nice trucks in the past. I remember when these trucks were new. You working at the dealer back then has to be a trip down memory lane now. I remember when you could find Celicas for a few hundred dollars. Not any more now.

Your not kidding Terry, I tried to buy my youngest son a mid 70's Celica around 10 years ago and they were 5-7 grand. All the nice stuff is still on the west coast but it comes at a premium

Tony, you probably already know this, but there is an 86 Xtra cab here on YT classifieds in Jax. No motor but some good parts.

Thanks Cory, I just saw that today. My fear is, I've never had an xtra cab and if I got it, I probably would want to keep it lol.

Test fit the 2nd gen roof rack on the runner. Perfect fit! I've gotta go get stainless hardware and some 3m 5200 to seal the deal.

The roof rack looks like a perfect fit. Looks great. I ever get to the west coast, I would like to snag a few parts while out there. I am missing out on a unmolested 82/83 SR5 Longbed. It has hail damage, faded paint,a rust hole by the exhaust and faded interior. The guy wants 1500 for it but a friend of mine knows him and thinks it could be had for about 1000 in my area. I got plenty of projects as it is. I want a first gen truck but it is going to have to sit on the waiting list. Some you just have to pass on. That time and money things sure gets in the way of things.

I really like that little black truck you have posted earlier. I am not brave enough to go black on my current project. I am going to make my 87 standard cab my daily go to work truck. Do you remember the name of the rims you had on yours? Looks good with them.

Nice! If you plan to bolt down through the fiberglas, watch out for double-layer spots. To prevent crushing the lower layer where the washer / metal strip reenforcement would be, I used nylon bushings cut flush to surface of lower layer (Option to recess by an RCH - heh-heh). Upper end of bushing would press tightly against the upper roof layer, and there would be some moderate compression on the lower layer.
This is where the top-liner metal strip curves to clear the rear quarter window...

BTW, I used a raised-rail rack from Chevy Blazer. Fits the whole length of the cap.

Thanks Terry. The thing I remember about those wheels is that I took them off of an Olds Omega that we used for a burn out car. I ended up putting Weld wheels on there shortly afterward along with a wheelie bar. We used my little Toyota as a bait truck for the street racers on the way to the drag strip. This way we could gauge who to run against when we got to the raceway. There's no way a guy with a V8 wouldn't show his butt when a Jap truck pulled up next to him haha. Made us a bunch of money 👍

Ray, thanks for checking in. I find your illustrations most useful! It's still lobster season down here in the Florida Keys. I'll meet you down there with my rig, a roll of wire, and my tools for you to upgrade my wiring. All the Lion fish and Conch fritters you can eat. Oh yea, beer too!
