New to lockrite

I just installed a lockrite in the back of my truck and I don't know how it's suppose to feel. It clucked pretty good going straight once but it hasn't done it since. Also I notice alot of backlash in the diff now but when I set it up there was only 5.5 thou backlash in the gears, m buddy said it was play between the axle and the carrier side plates.

search mat16's aussie locker writeup. Its teh same style locker and handles the same. he does a good job explaining it, but it does have some quirks.

I have only been driving mine for two weeks.

Coasting through turns is "freewheels" back there, making a thunking sound, deeper than a tick. If I give it some throttle, chirp!! If I really get on it, drag, chirp, bark, etc, etc. This is all in turns.

I did notice that the auto trans thunks into drive a bit louder with the new diff. Part of that might be the 5.29's, but not sure.

I did not set mine up, it came in the used diff.

Mine came in a used diff as well but I swapped the ring gear so i set the backlash again. Just the thunk going straight concerned me.

the lockers will "unload" and CLUNK very loudly almost to the point where it sounded like you broke something
but shouldn't happen all the time.

Mine does it rarely.

Yeah it only did it once so far, it just concerned me because I was going straight. Would having one brand new and one 1/2 worn tire make it do that?

Well that is not helping your situation at all...It's bad enough having different sized tires on the front and rear but you definitely should have the same size, worn the same, tires on the same axle.

Yes, definitely that could cause an issue. The RPM's of the axle shafts side to side are "wanting" to be differnet even in a straight line.

My Aussie has done that once or twice going straight. Its usually when I slow down then get back on the gas. Wouldn't worry about it.

So any input on the clunk when accelerating? It's like too much backlash but it's not the gears. Are the side plates worn out where the axles go in?

Did you do research on the Lockrite before buying it?
This is a very common side-effect of it.

Read Matt's thread about it.

You need to make sure all your tires are the same size and close to the same wear on each of them.
As said before, the different RPM's can cause problems.

The only thing you can do to tame the noise is use thicker gear oil. I use 85W140 GL5 IIRC. You can't tame the backlash except by altering your driving.
