4cyl lockrite in 6cyl diff?

ok so my brother has a lockrite in a diff , dnot know if its 4cyl like my runner, or 6cyl. but he also has a spare set of 6cyl 3rdmembers with 4.56 gearing. can I just put the lockrite in the 6cyl diff and toss it in, or will it not fit if its a 4cyl lockrite?

The V6 diff has two extra spider gears inside to make it stronger. Thus the 4 cyl lockright wont find inside the V6 diff. If your 4Runner is a V6, you can install a 4 cyl diff (its a direct bolt in) and have the option of an Aussie Locker as well. The 4 cyl diff is rumoured to be just about as strong as the V6 diff. A friend who works on full size domestics says the Toyota internals are as beefy as some of the trucks he works on.

4cyl lockrite has 4 large plates that interlock. There are only two 'notches' for the spider pinion shaft.

v6 lockrite has 2 large camming plates only, and they're cone shaped, to sit on the original side gears. There are 4 notches in the back of the plate to fit the v6 pinion shafts which is shaped like a big X.

V6 lockrite is cheaper than the 4cyl one, so just go spend a few bucks and buy it, then swap in your new gearsets. Be sure to check gear clearance before and afterwards, and put adequate preload on the side bearings. If you don't know how or don't have a dial indicator, you should get a good shop to set it up for you.

the 4cyl lockright has more parts and wont fit in the v6 diff, so if it is a 4 cyl no it will not fit.

Is there any performance difference between the 4cyl Lockright and the V6 Lockright? Is one smoother than the other?

People will argue that the 4cyl is stronger then the v6 since it replaces more of the stock parts. But I doubt it. They will act the same.
