New Headlight Q's

Gonna step up the lights to some new ones. Going to get the H4 housings and some fatboy bulbs.

This is probably a stupid question, but the harness to get from 4crawler would be the dual H4 correct?

Should I step up to the HD o HO harness as well?

I have a switched ground too right?

As noted above, you are getting the H4 headlights so you would want the H4 harness to match the bulbs. And Toyotas mostly use switched ground wiring as noted:

As far as the Heavy Duty and High Output options, that is up to you. The HD option will ensure proper high beam indicator operation even on vehicles with high loads on this part of the circuit:

The High Output relays are a good idea if you are running 100 watt or higher bulbs:

by the way, you more than likely dont need to change your headlight wires. i didn't and i'm running Hella 100/80W H4 bubs in my 91' V6 petrol
i'd pst pics but Photobucket is not working right now.

Don't assume here. Roger Brown provides a very simple test to see if you need to upgrade the harness or not.

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...ml#VoltageTest

Try these steps first and then make your decision. I for instance was more than 1.1V off on my readings from the battery to the headlights. Thats a pretty big drop.

yeah, just because they light up doesn't mean that they're lighting to their full potential.

you want the max voltage you can get right to the headlight. the light will disperse better, and be much, much brighter.

i have some of the ebay h4s. they are much better than the stockers. they came with some japan labled blue bulbs. i like the look of them both on the truck and the light they provide. im not saying their arent better housings or bulbs. and i will be installing my own harness with bigger wire and relays to let them achieve better voltage. but if the short answer you want is will you need to change the wiring for an h4, no. they use the same style plug. for the 29 bucks i spent shipped, im happy. and they have a 194 port down low too. i put in some purple leds their. yet to wire a switch to them though.

I went with the Hella kit and noticed a dramatic difference right off the bat. Been experimenting a little with bulbs and I'm now running GE Nighthawks, which provide me a nice, white lighting. I'm contemplating the wiring harness upgrade, to get just that little bit extra.

4crawler's harness looks excellent.

i rewired mine using two bosch 30A relays. one for high beams, one for lows. it even made a difference with the HID's.

Yeah, by the way, Sylvania Silverstars are made by Osram Sylvania. When I lived in Germany, they were sold as Osram Silverstars. The Sylvania name brand seems to be for the Western Hemisphere, since everywhere else I have seen them as Osram.
