You cannot. It's severely retarding the timing. Only way is to pull to end and replace the wire and/or knock sensor. It's 95% times just the wire that's broken. They get brittle. Just suck it up and fix it the right way. Sorry.

I didn't figure there was anyway around. The wire is fine however.

Knock sensor is a common "power killer" on the 3VZE. Replace sensor and wiring harness and you'll notice the power gain. The person who re-built and or replaced the engine shoud have known better.

Glowing manifolds are from an excessive rich mixture "dumping fuel" improper air/fuel mixture.

I was fighting the same issue. New Tps,17,000 miles on the engine, new everything.Ended up being the connector on the TPS and MAF. Both had bad contacts.

Bypass it. See the following thread about doing this. You will need another knock sensor and some coax cable to reroute it.

I did this and it has worked for 6 months. Have to re-torque it occasionally.

When I put my engine back together after changing the head gaskets in my '93 I had manifold glowing and it was because I goofed and had the distributor timing way off. I also had a knock sensor code on that engine for 5 years and it ran fine, no lack of power.

You test the check engine light with te1 and e1 correct?

It ran just fine without it hooked up until the fan blade exploded.

i have dealt with similar "lack of power" and rich smell, i got an O2 code, fuel economy was in the toilet ( <10mpg!) replaced sensor with denso oem replacement and a new AFM (long story on AFM) since those 2 replacements and shaving a little weight off right foot, i am averaging 16-17 mpg, 14mpg in city, best fuel economy since i have owned it, still a little slow on takeoff but seems to have SOME power returns

Good advice.

Again, the knock sensor WILL reduce ignition timing to ZERO if it's not reading. That makes power go to crap.

If the knock sensor is NOT connected, you SHOULD be getting a code. Don't understand that one, unless your CEL bulb is burned out...

How do you ground the shielded wire straight to the ECM? I was thinking the test terminal e1 but that changed nothing. I rerouted it to the right front engine hook. What am I missing. I did use shielded cable wire for temporary use. Are you supposed to let the shielding touch the copper wire? I have no idea what to do.

Nvm I'm gonna try and put it in the other side as soon as my new wire comes In and I'll fill you guys in from there. Possibility that sudden shock could mess up mass air flow sensor?
