you know, that search button is really easy to use.

i searched for "2nd Gen Roll Bar" and I got:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/2nd-gen-rollbar-65742/

www.sonoransteel.com sells them for 2nd and 3rd gens.

maybe you shouldn't be so quick to get out the noob stick. had i known that there were multiple threads, i would have stated specifically what i was looking for....next time i'll make sure to list everything....down to the bolt size, thread size, and whether or not i wanted it stainless steel or zinc plated!

All I could find. Doesn't really say how he cut it or not... but I am sure if you asked him he would be more than willing to share. Let me know what you can find as I am getting ready to do the same mod.

my question is why??? the 1st gen had them because of the removable top.. but since the 2nd gen are all metal it's not going to do anything but get in the way.

js,

oh dude, just relax and quit w/ the sarcasm! if you post such a generic question that can be easily searched, youre gonna get that kind of response from time to time.

glad you got your answer.

:pat: Any extra protection will help is the way I see it. Plus with a daughter on the way I will feel a whole lot safer knowing that she is safer.

It makes a great place to mount and tie stuff down to as well.

I wouldn't cut the interior side panels (didn't on mine) it just looks nasty and really no need to do it. On mine I just removed one interior side panel and popped out the side window on the same side (makes it easy to twist it into place without causing any damage). I Also mounted it in the same position the 1st Gens have theirs instead of towards the back. You still have access to the side compartments and it puts it upfront where it doesn't interfear or obstruct anything. Also up front if you were going with mounting an extinguiser or CO2 bottle you'ld have quick easy access from either passenger door. Anyway it still does little more than look cool, I would imagine if I rolled my rig the rollbar would probably bust thru my wheel wells and floor, blowing both back tires and not making my gas tank so happy either. Your only as safe as you drive, defensive, alert and always aware that not everyone else is.

search not only goes thru the titles, but also the text to find what you're looking for. if cootes found it, then you should have been able to with just a touch of effort. now that you've been spoon fed maybe you'll be happy now.

i quickly dismissed the thread because i thought the thread i was looking for was exclusively about the roll bar, not a hi-lift mounting point. My bad.

Here is a 1st gen rollbar in my 91.. I had it shortened to fit in the way it came out of the 1st gen. Now it holds my high lift and fire extinguisher...

Good point 91 4Runner I almost forgot an important part, the legs will need to be cut shorter (2 1/4 '') and the mounting pads re-welded back on. Brought mine just a bit further forward, yours looks good and you still have side compartment access.

this thread still goin? it is now

for all the naysayers on the functionality of the 1st gen roll bar (RB), it ain't gonna prevent the rear roof from collapsing in, but by no means does it get in the way...instead it's a way convenient tie-stuff-to locale, as per my photos (Hi-Lift, tow straps, tool box, fire ex'r, etc).

and as for this not cutting of the paneling due to Runner-demoralizing cosmetics: can't vouch for that. it's fine. also the lack of any sort of torch or welding equipment of mine to cut off the lower ~2" and reweld on the foot thing led me to bustin out my simple Swiss army knife saw and doin the job in 5 min.

it was a pain in the ass to squeeze the RB in there w/o removing the rear side windows, but still got it. I tried takin em out, but they were pretty good and suctioned in there, and I didn't wanna learn the hard way via breakin it that it didn't wanna come out--but where there's a will there's a way.

besides, later when I replaced my rear speakers, I only hadta remove 1/2 of the panel rather than yankin the whole thang out again--nor do I have rear compartment hindrances

and if a crash is imminent, I don't think anyone's gonna be happy within immediate surroundings whose gas tank's unhappy, regardless of rollbar or nay

so, for all future 1st gen roll bar mountings in non-1st gen Runners: rock on, just do what seems logical with yer available tools...and make it pimp
