Need help fast!!! locking gas tank door is stuck

Hey there i went to get gas this morning and when i went to unlock the gas tank door the key wouldn't budge at all just bent. i played with for a lil while until i gave up and went home. i went home and grabbed my good set of keys and tried and the key will turn to where it will unlock but the door will not unlock. I really dont wanna have to drill it out but it might be a only option right now. any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks yall

some lube may help......an old trick is to rub a pencil repeatedly on the key and keep inserting and repeating....the graphite works as a non-oily lube.

is there a remote release from inside the truck (mine does not have but my son's 88 4runner has one)

good luck man.

went out and tried....can't trip that mechanism.

i'm assuming the screwdriver is to turn the actual tumblers forcefully......i guess if all else fails, you've got a busted lock anyway and you need it open....so go to it.

Mine sticks, can you not just push on the door as you're turning the key? And when you get that sucker open make sure you grease that tab really well. Good luck.

I'd wire brush the hell out of it, then grease it up - obviously be sure to cycle it back and forth a bunch of times after you grease it.

I'd recommend getting an aerosol white lithium grease - that way it will expand within the mechanism versus the liquid/gel grease that is hard to get any penetration with.

I got mine at Toyota but you can get it just about anywhere.

I know O'Reillys carries DuPont...
