Need help with a cross threaded bolt
So this past weekend I screwed up my tie rod and steering rod. I had already unfortunately had the recall done, anyway I digress. I need some help with a problem I've run in to, The threaded stud that one of the inner tie rod bolts to the steering rod by has a few screwed up threads is there any way I can
a fix the threads
or
b. replace the stud with out replacing the inner tie rod

thread chaser. it's like a tap or die but less agressive so less chance of accidentially destroying the threads completely. gray tools makes a nice "thread restore" kit with various inner and outer thread restorers and some thread files. about $400.
you want a thread chaser or restorer so you won't crossthread a die and completely ruin the stud. a chaser won't cut new threads, only restore old ones.

where is the best place to pick one of those up. I've seen thread taps but none of those.
Or can anyone tell me what thread chaser or thread file I need for that inner tie rod bolt

Buy a metric pitch guage to measuer the thread pitch
Get a metric bolt hole guage to tell you the diameter of the threaded bolt
Thread files usually have 4 sides with EIGHT different pitches on them (different on each end).
Tie rod MAY be left hand threaded (I dunno off hand)...

I have a small thread repair file, has a 60 degree angle one one edge with file teeth cut along it. Have used it many times to repair threads. Got it at the local hardware store. With just a single "V", it'll work on any thread, SAE or metric.
