i got a '88 4runner with the 3L and a manual tranny, and there is very annoying sqweak coming from the tranny/transfer case area.

it starts off as a slow sqweak at around 20kph, and as i speed up to 80kph, its gets quicker and then finally disappers, until i slow back down, then it comes back. it does it when the truck is in gear or neutral, 2x4 and 4x4, and also when the motor is off, and just coasting along. after about an hour of driving it kinda goes away.

any suggestions?? thanks

pilot bearing? or it could be one of yer u-joints/double cardan joint. Put her on jack stands put her in gear and crawl under it, listen to yer lady.

I had a reallllly anoying squeak comming from my tranny area, first I thought it was a throw out bearing, but upon closer inspection the fork going into the side of the tranny was the cause.

The tip of it that rides on the little ball rusted so it was causing a veryyyyy anoying high speed squeak. I sprayed some liquid lithium grease into it, keeps it quiet for a week or 2. gonna have to fix it permatly someway..
Try to move it around a little and see if thats the cause.
