Are my torsion bars worn out?

I have a 94 p/up truck. I was going to lift the front a little by cranking my t bars. When I did so and put it back on the ground, I had only a little over 14" tire-fender on my pass side, and about a 15" gap on my driver side. The adjuster bolt is almost to the max. I read that the cranking of the bar all the way should yield a much higher lift than this, so does this mean that the springs in the bars are worn out. I have 140K miles, nothing heany on my front, the PO didn't wheel the truck, and it was never ridden on fullcrank before. Thanks for the help.

I would imagine based on the fact that your truck has been sitting on it's torsion bars for 12 years could be reason enough for them to be worn out, but mind you I don't think my are worn out/started to sag yet. Mine is 1 year older than yours and I think mine are fine. If/when mine do decide to go/sag a bit, I'll be putting some OME 23.4 MM torsion bars in.

Can you crank the passenger side more to even it out? Did you turn the bolts the exat same number of times each? Was the fender trim to top of the wheel equal before hand?

No it wasn't equal, that's why I was going to level it out. The pass side was lower to begin with. I haven't heard of anyone whos bars were worn out, let alone on a DD. Don't know if its worn out or what. Thanks for the response though.

Yeah, any spring will wear out. Just because it's a DD doesn't mean it doesn't take a pounding with 12 years of speed bumps and pot holes.

If you are just going for level, I would just lower the driver's side down an inch and be level. The bolts do not have to be adjusted exactly the same.

If you're running out of adjustment, simply re-index the tbars. That is, take them out and rotated them 1 or two splines over.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, do the bars make clicking sound after adjustment? Might be my cv shaft, but sounds like its coming from the torsion area?

Is the clicking occurring while driving and turning the wheels at full lock, or are you driving straight ahead?

The spings on my 95 were almost worn out when I bout in, 6 years old, and 90K. They did alright until I put a 3" rancho on, I lost lift. The rancho does put a different stress on it, but they were week. I know have the 25mm Powerbarz. The stock bars on the 92 were in much better shape when I removed them at 150K, and 13 years old.

The clicking is constant while I drive straight, and also after I come to a stop, it continues to click for a couple of seconds. There is also a loud knocking sound when I drive past 15mph, which I think is my cv shaft but not positive.

Check and see if one of your driveshafts is rubbing on it's dust cover.

I doubt its anything rotating since it happens after he stops???

I was thinking it might be the added strain on the tbars, creaking more than clicking???

I dont believe this is possible, There is a fat spline that keeps them in the same spot.

I've heard of some reindexing them, but I think you have to grind off the fat spline or cut/file a new groove for the fat spline to slide into. I think I would just get new bars or better yet get some ball joint spacers. With BJ spacers you want the T-bars adjusted down anyway.

I am planning to get some bj spacers, but was just wondering if I needed to replace my T bars? Will these be ok if I crank them down after putting in the spacers. Thanks for all the help
