Here are some links to pics of the innards of these things.

I got mine through winchdepot.com but they appear to be part of 4WheelParts as I was given the option to pick mine up at the store. Since shipping was free I decided to let it come to me. It was also cheaper on line but still had tax to pay. I don't know about the ext warranty through winchdepot. I didn't look into it at all. I figured with 2 years manufacturer warranty I should be able to iron out any issues if I get a lemon. If it craps out multiple times in 2 years then I'll also know which way the wind is blowing too, and I'll just have to scour CL for a Warn.

ive used the new one a couple times, and its worked perfect.

the first time i used it to pull my self out, i was stuck on some stumps and in about 3' of snow. plus it was an uphill pull.

then i pulled a jeep Cherokee back onto the road with it.(he was in the ditch)

imo, i have not put this one to the test! though i plan on it

so i cant really say, but even though the first one broke it never left me stranded. so i would say even if i only got about 20 good pulls out of it before i had problems, it was still worth it!

but only time will tell with the new one, i will post up here if i get another chance to use it

nasty!!!

thats what my lil brothers old warn looked like inside(different solenoid's of coarse)

a lil electric grease would have stopped that.

yea that plastic cover doesn't protect those connections at all, though i think the solenoid thing is sealed completely.

did it still work?

I got mine hot after 8 long pulls.
The alternator light and the brake light came on for a few seconds and then when I let it sit they went out.
I packed the winch motor with snow to cool it down.
It still works fine though I haven't had any problems with free spool. Although sometimes it is hard to engauge.

nice!!

yea i think that means your battery was out of juice

i used mine until my battery went dead, never got hot. though my charge light didn't come on i don't think.
but when id hit the controller my truck would run like poo,
like it was trying to kill my motor

I see you changed your avatar.. Hows that winch holding out after submerging it like that? I just got mine.. they really do ship rediculously fast. Ended up with the XRC8 instead of the gorilla because of the lifetime warrentee..Cant beat that. $385 to my door.

yea, i get bored and change it once in a while..

it still works great..

its nice having a winch, i feel spoiled.. so are you gonna put it to the test also? or is it just for looks

if you want, you can post your uses/thoughts about the xrc8 here!

Sounds like a plan..And anything else i can do to waterproof it as much as possible. Is there a limit as far as to how long i can extend these connections? Because it would be sweet to run it into the cab somewhere. but first i plan on putting some die-electric grease around the wire to avoid this from happening..

Finally stuck mine on the truck. FYI for anyone thinking about this, the roller fairlead that came with the winch (and I imagine this would be true for any roller fairlead) did not fit my Marlin bumper. You'll need to get a hawse.

Because of the fairlead issue, I've only been able to putz around a tiny bit with it. Obviously no real pulls yet. Seems fine though.

that sux.. i wonder if there a different size than the rest? or if marlin's bumper just doesn't except a roller fair lead? though i wouldn't think so.

are you gonna go looking for trouble now?

When I bought my marlin front bumper they told me the marlin bumper cannot run a roller type fairlead... Only a hawse.

Yeah, it just looks like it's not even designed for it. I either wasn't told or wasn't paying attention to that fact when I got mine. Ah well, it just moves up the timeline for syn line and hawse.
