not new gears. The whole differential with 4.56's from the junkyard that way it's a easy drop in swap.

You can find whole 4.88s and 5.29 front ifs and rear diffs from people who who've do sas or 1ton swaps. Find em pretty cheap indeed. Check out pirate.
And 4.56s 3vze 33s with a 5spd would do just fine. I've got a 22r 5.29s 35s and a 5spd. Does great.

Well I would like to pick some 4.88's up but none of the local junk yards have any.
I just don't want to dump a crap load of dough I am trying to keep this thing a budget build.
Besides that makes the old lady happy right?

lol went out offroading last night and tweaked my idler arm. I knew exactly where I did it too. I went into a hole on my left side pretty fast and the down to the right hard and boom came out and right after the steering wheel was tweaked to the left.
Doh time to hit the salvage for an idler arm.....

Decided to go topless today since it was a nice day.
Decided what the hell got some Krylon flat black and painted the top.
It came out pretty nice. It took about 3 cans but the results were beautiful.
Some pics.
The top bed rails were perfect no rust....
Supposed to get snow this week so put the top back on buttoned it down again.

your rear bumper doesn't have ANYTHING on mine.
mine hung down 2" before I put my 3" bl on. Now it hangs down 5 or 6". so now mine looks like crap. I need to figure out how to make one.

The tires don't rub on the street at all now. It does rub offroad some.
As far as the idle arm if you jack it up move the tire side to the way it steers. If you notice movement of your idle arm up and down the bushings in it are screwed.
I have had idle arms look fine and straight but when they are jacked up then you see the bushings move it throws everything off.

My 4runner has the foldable rear seat. I.E. you you fold up the seat part. The backrest cushion goes on the floor and that panel folds down and forms a sort of pick up bed. So its not so much a rear seat delete panel as it is Mid-gate of sorts. See Toyota beat GM to the punch...lol.

Little cold this morning check out the frosty windshield
Well got some cheap shocks for the rear of my 4 runner..
The old shocks rear shocks were done. Plus they were pretty much extended to the max with the rear lift shackles.
You compress them they don't come back out not much resistance to push them in either.
The new shocks are for a 98 Dodge ram 2500 4x4 3/4 ton rear app. They were about $22.99 ea.
The dodge shocks are 16" compressed and 26" extended with 10" of travel
stock shocks are 13.65" compressed 21.50 extended and 7.8" of travel.
I had to cut out the bushings of the new shocks and use the stock bushings temporarily.
The part number if anyone wants to know
Here they are on.
They are yellow they kind look like OME's lol
I will be getting some energy suspension bushings from summit for this app so they work correctly.
As far as the road test a lot less swag in the rear. The old shocks weren't doing much so you know the story.
I have to fully articulate it for sure to tell u how I like them.
some lame flex pics. Not much of a hill to test it out.
I am sure I gained some down travel about 4+ more but lost some up travel about -3.35" so the tires won't be rubbing the rear upper fender wells likely anymore.
I also figure what the hell if I change around the rear shock mounts I already have longer shocks to accommodate a lift or different springs.

If you get V6 thirds don't forget to steal the lower end of the rear drivershaft. The bolt pattern is bigger than on a 4cylinder diff. If you slide it out it should slide right into the upper part of your driveshaft. I believe the front diffs are the same though.

The back bed rails were so rusted out they flopped back and forth when I pulled on the hole that was rusted through under the cap.
I don't what was keeping the fiberglass top on it. I really was turned off about it at that point I didn't even look underneath it because it was likely worse.
The guy told me $300 was the lowest I was like lol....
Maybe it's worth $50 for the front axle.
Anyways I know where I can find a solid front axle for mine somewhere else.
Hey but other news.
Score getting some free differentials.
I talked to a guy parting out a rolled 94 4 runner and he told me I could have his old differentials which are 4.56's. If I help him take the parts off the 4 runner to part it out. 4.88's would be better but 4.56's are close.
Hey it's a upgrade it's better than 4.11's I currently have in there.
