My 4-runner is history : (

Hey all, Just wanted to drop a note to all the 89-95 toyota folks to say that i had to trade in my 95' 4-runner for welllll a 2004 chevy cavalier. My grandpa is a salesman at the chevy dealership and got my an excellent deal on a spotless one with 25,000 miles on the clock with a full 3 year warranty for 8,000 out the door (listed at 11,000 on the lot). Getting an average of 32mpg right now it was a financial decision i had to make as a poor college student. Thanks for all the help and inspiration everyone gave me to start learning how to fix my own vehicle. Ive been on a couple cavalier message boards learning up about my new engine and well those boards are well lousy.....no yotatech thats for sure! When I graduate and get a job ill have myself another yota in a few years and I'll be back. I shed a few tears when I drove by and saw the poor 4-runner sitting in the back of the dealership on the budget lot for $400 bucks : ( Thanks again all

yeah its in bad shape, runs good and drives good, body is bad, inspection runs out soon (no way it would pass), no muffler lol

It's basically a 2 month rental till inspection runs out or a parts car

A runner like that would go for a few grand up here EASY. I should buy that the part it out. Make 400 bucks selling the engine.

man, why sell it if your only gonna get 400 out of it. hell, save up that 4 and make it back up.

if your a poor college student, why would you end up buying an 8 grand car?

i wouldnt do it.

Watch the coolant/oil closely in that Cav. They are notorious for blowing headgaskets. A friend of mine had a 01 and hers blew....had to replace them motor.

I'm guessing you traded the 4runner in? And they're turning around and selling it for 400, so they couldn't have given you much for it. Then you have a car for 8 grand (plus full coverage assuming since your a poor college student, you didn't have 8K to put down, plus intrest)..... Not sure where the finacial decision came in to factor. For 8 grand that 4runner could be one hell of a car, even if you had to replace every body panel on it lol. My ass would be back at the dealer wanting to trade back.

$8000 for a piece of crap only to save a couple bucks at the gas pump doesn't seem very smart to me......doesn't speak well for whatever college you go to!

I'm sorry, but I should cyber slap you. $400 for a 4Runner would mean it would have to be not running, a rust bucket (literally), and older than 90. I mean my 95 in good condition, with a bad CV, I bought for $4,200. Even ones in terrible condition. but runs goes for >$1000. I would go talk to your grandpa and ask for it back and sell it privately, you may be a collage student, blah, blah, from MY financial knowledge it would be better financially to sell it on consignment, which takes care of your space and time issue. Please tell me how spending $7,600 plus APR, is cheaper than keeping your 4Runner, I mean you could have gotten a better (IMHO) than a cavalier for 8k.

Rant end/

I kinda thought this toyota board was better than to go on a rant bashing other brands/cars/...I thought thats what all the other immature boards do. I was just posting to say thanks for all the help over the years and teaching me alot of things I couldnt of done on my own. I'll always be a Toyota fan but to say another well maintained vehicle can't last reletively trouble-free for 3-5 years is ridiculous. My parents put 2 grand down and my grandparents put a grand down so im financing 5 grand for 3 years at 5.9% (Not much of a car payment for a basically brand new car). Building credit in the process. I don't know what you people are smoking but I want some. I would not get more than a grand privately for that 4-runner in Erie, PA or else I would of done it. I am not dumb. Not that I should have to defend my decision cause I didnt ask for an opinion but yeah thanks again everyone...

PS to all you people who nickle and dime everything...Sometimes when you're working 40/hours week on top of full time studies your time is worth more than dealing with other crap....
