Gas milage update: I took a trip to Richmond and back (about 180 mile drive round trip). Filled up with 89 octane before and after. I averaged 19.24mpg @ an average speed of 65mph. Not bad... I'm going to be doing the trip again soon. It will be interesting to see if that number holds, or if it's just a fluke...

To have 250HP it is not a stock 3vze could be built to 250HP though. I once saw a Toyota Pickup in Calgary Pick Your Parts that had a V6 motor and on the valve covers it said Heads by Yamaha, it also stated DOHC. Was looking for car parts. Apparently this motor put out 225HP but only 2000 where shipped to Canada or North America. Do not know if it was a modified 3VZE but it was a V6.
Diesel almost 20MPG with an auto is not bad, which way was the wind blowing. Presently I am getting 17 to 19 MPG (US) with 750 - 1000 pound load at 70MPH.
Boy do I wish we could adjust the computer.

THis is how I g0t 250 hp. Follow the instructions on the forum "How to mod your 4runner". That should boost your hp minimum. FOr MAximum results,
Brand new crate motor, take it to the shop, have it rebuilt for performance (mine was built with bigger pistons, LARGE Cam, etc etc... ) Have it leak tested, timed for performance and Add a trustworthy performance chip that you would prefer... it takes research on which one to buy, HEaders, dual 3 inch exhaust, PLus K&N, Also find a mechanic that you know well because otherwise, you'll be getting less hp for more money...
Again my 4runner has been done up so find a 4runner without a engine and start there!
LUCK
I am saying F these engines now, F the 3vz and go with a 320hp stock 2jzgte supra motor because ya you have to plug in the wiring harness, and take the bellhousing to a shop to be customized (R150F beginning of bellhousing cut in half and connected to 2jzgte ending of bellhousing cut in half) ( ) BUT 600 hp is cheap to come by after the engine is installed! GO 2jzgte

So I'm still having some minor issues getting the idle set right. I started getting some pinging earlier today so I pulled over (just happened to have a timing light on me) and checked the timing. Well, the timing at idle (E1 & TE1 jumped) well above 25 degrees btdc. Of course it idled nice and smooth then - Now that it's back down to 10 degrees, I have a very low idle @400/500 rpm (even with idle screw open all of the way) and no power on accelleration. The TPS is set spot on and I don't seem to have any vacuum leaks. I'll see if I can borrow a smoke tester to confirm that. I suppose I'll also re check the AFM again.
Any other suggestions?

LOOK up the 2jzgte 4runner on youtube man its crazy sweet

Hey dude, sorry to burst your bubble, but you're definately not at 190 crank hp. Not anywhere close.
I'm going to say you're right at bone stock, 150hp.
I've seen stock dynos over 110hp.
Now, a stock 3.4 (185hp, 220lb-ft), makes anywhere from 145 - 160whp (2wd, 4wd, auto, 5spd, etc).
So basically, if you had the power of a stock 3.4 (185hp) you'd be making atleast 150whp.
(that's why i did a s/c'd 3.4 swap).
BTW spaino,
you're crazy, no way you can get 250hp out of a 3.0 on pump gas and with no turbo.

I haven't taken it to a dyno thats for sure, but I estimate my hp being beyond enough powerful or at least more powerful than many other rigs on the road. And the minimum it makes is 200 at the crank.

Hahahahaha 150 hp STOCK I agree, but like I said, DOug thorley headers adds around 50hp, so roughly 190hp plus K&N 5 HP at 195HP PLUS PORTED AND POLISHED intake manifold PLUS LARGE CAM 14 HP BIGGER PISTONS, 3 Inch dualy exhaust with high output flow mini cat converters,
