So I've got an 86 4Runner SR5 (Oct. 85 production date) that I am rebuilding. The multifunction switch was broken, so I am in the process of replacing it. It has the intermittent wipers, cruise control, tilt. I ordered one off eBay, the part number is 84310-35250. In the research I have done it claims to be for an 86-89 4Runner. The switch has the same features, intermittent wipers, cruise control. I do not know if the donor truck had tilt though, if that matters. Here's the catch. My 86 wire loom has a 6 pin connector as does the original switch, which I cannot read the part number on that. The new one, and all those I can find on the internet, only have a 3 pin connector. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. New plug New plug Original plug Original plug
I don't know if any of this will help. Below is the page from an '89 EWD. The second page was apparently copied without including the diagrams of the connector.
Do you have a washer? 2-speeds in addition to intermittent? In the end, you'll probably have to figure out where each wire from your original connector goes, and decide if you need to keep that function.
I'd need the model number to be absolutely sure, but I don't show the #35250 being for a 1986. It was for 1987. if I got my numbers right yours should be a #35190.
In my 1987 EWD manual I do show a three pin connector(though oddly the pin configuration looks different)
There was ton of subtle changes between 1986/1987. Just enough to make things not work, or fit. (like the dash vents)
Just out of curiosity, if you plug the new switch into the loom(just the big connector for now), can you determine what doesn't work? You couldn't test cruise control with it just hanging there, but headlights hi/low, wipers, washer, t/s, hazard, dash illumination/rheostat.
