Steering column switch

Hello guys, i have problems with my signals lights and hi Beam. The signal lights just stay green and does not flash and the hi beam does not function. I decide to buy a column switch from a friend who is parting a 85 4runner. Last weekend when i start to change it, i notice it have an additional white plug that mine does not have. What its the function of it? can i use it? here is the links for the pictures.

Thanks in advance.

only guessing if yours is a manuel and his is an auto transmission then the extra wire could be for the transmission.

This is from the Hilux Pickup ad which does not have the extra white plug:

This is the signal levers for the 1984 to 1988 truck equipped with this type of switch assembly. Be sure your truck has this type of switch. This assembly does NOT have cruise control or a the various time delay setting for the delay wipers. Only the mist feature. This is the most common switch used in the trucks. This can be used in place of the various time delay type switch assemblies. If your needing a switch to get your functions working and don't mind giving up the time delay. This works in place of those switch levers as well.

I would have to assume that that the plug is possibly for the intermittent wiper feature. I will try to find that page on the 1st gen manual I have on CD at home for you to be sure.

This is from the ad for the combo switch that has the extra plug on it....

Up for auction is a 1986 Toyota 4RUNNER Steering Column Multi-Function Switch with Intermittent Wipers (delay wipers)... The switch works great & is ready to be installed...

Here's some links for FSM's (factory service manuals);

You just need to look around a little here at the site and you can usually find what you want to know...

About that plug...I would think that it's the delay wipers running to the wiper relay for the intermittent wipers...but not certain. Hope this helps you. I'm curious myself. I'll try to let you know for sure.

Also, not sure but maybe if you take a look at the switches and clean the contacts, that might help you also.

I find that when I'm replacing these types of parts it's best to have looked the original part over very well and compare everything, in this case it might be hard to tear down the entire column, if you do not have another vehicle to drive while your waiting on parts. I would hate to do it twice but you might have to, if you want to make sure what you get will work. Are you sure your unit is the problem?

Mine has the time delay so i guess that extra plug is for the automatic trans since this part come from an automatic 4runner. Thanks for the reply guys. should i try a change it? i do not wanna make anything worse like a short or something because of the different plug. Thanks again.
