I just want to make sure I understand...you recommended 2.25 pipe (stock manifolds and pipe through the cat converter) but didn't give a Magnaflow part number. Any recommendations for a slightly more aggressive than stock sound while still eeking out the MPG benefits?

Resurrecting this just a bit...I too have a 3VZE 93 4x4 Pickup and my muffler is about shot. I was just going to replace it, but reading everywhere that you can gain a couple MPG with 2.25" cat back system. I don't want anything loud, but I will admit that a little rumble beyond stock sound wouldn't offend me

After the rebuild I had the full LCE exhaust with header, hi-flo cat, pro flo muffler out a 3" tip. I didn't really care for it, don't know if it was the widened tip or what but it sounded a little too "ricey" (even though it technically is rice.) Did some youtube research, replaced the muffler with a Thrush glasspack from the parts store with a turndown after the axle and it sounds like an old 80's four banger pickup should.

If your state doesn't have emission requirements, I'd throw that cat in the nearest dumpster and never look back. I gained maybe 1 or 1.5 MPG at the most with this combination.
The part number of my muffler is 11235. They also make an 18" version that will be a bit quieter. That part number is 11265. It's a 4"x9" oval muffler with a offset/offset design, just like mine.

Oh, and here's a crappy video I made of mine a while back. It's just an idle video with a tiny throttle blip. I didn't want the neighbors yelling at me
I'll have to make a better one with some revving and stuff once I get my tip on.

Well, I realized I ordered the complete wrong tip by accident. That's what happens when you try to rush things before having to go to class. I accidentally ordered a 4" outlet 12"m long tip. I meant to get a 3.5" outlet. Here's how it looks though. It's a little big

I'm thinking about sending it back and getting the 3.5" outlet tip, but in the 18" length since I realized I have the room. Any quick opinions? Keep this? Get a different one? Sorry to thread jack.

On my 94 3slow I have stock headers and 2.25 with a straight pipe replacing the cat and it bumps up to 2.5 with a a 40 series flowmaster and 2.5 the rest of the way out, I have had many many complements on the way it sounds... just don't want to get caught without the cat where I live! :0

Anybody running a dyno-max on their 3.0? I have an appointment to get a flowy super 44 and a 2.5" tailpipe installed next friday but this video I watched today makes me want a dyno-max I just have no idea what this guys setup is!

If my pipe is cut just after my flowmaster 40 series am I losing a little control of the sound?
It's sounds ok, just not as sharp as I want it.
No cat. Looking for suggestions there too. Try to keep costs low. But open to all.
95 3.0 pickup.

The sound shouldn't change to much with how it is AFTER the muffler, only if the pipe size is different or if it has alot of bends or not will make it sound different. So to answer your question no it shouldnt make you lose control of the sound but I think you went a good rout with the 40 series and no cat mine is the same setup! 2.5 inch all the way with no cat and flowmaster is the best there is in my eyes!

Couldn't agree more, I almost did 3 inch muffler back but heard it would distort the sound to where it didn't sound like a truck at all it just turned into loud noise haha just going by what I've heard about it

Yeah thanks man, that drone is buggin me for sure. Gotta get it worked out. It's just flat cut off like 8 inches ( insert dick joke here) after muffler. Appreciate the input.

I had one on my 94 which has no cat - just a straight pipe - and the drone at highway cruising speed was absolutely nuts. It sounded like a chain saw on steroids So I had a turbo muffler put on like I had on my 88 and I was happy. It might have been better with a cat on or a resonator but I'm just happy w a turbo muffler -- louder than stock but not too loud. I'm 47 years old now.
I hear the Thrush welded is a cheap man's FlowMaster....same concept inside.
