I'm gonna go with a 4.3 Vortec swap later in life. I think the most common swaps are 22re and 3.4 Toyota V6 swaps. It basically depends on what you want to do. For HP and speed, go with a V8. For a good rockcrawler, drop something smaller in to keep your weight down. The bigger your engine is... the beefier your front suspension has to be. Check out Advance Adapters. Good luck.

stock would be best, but harder to find, the main swaps these days are the chevy vortec 4.3 or non vortec, toyota 3.4, ford 302, chevy 350, toyota 2.7, the easiest and least expensive would be the 4.3 vortec, the 3.4 you basically need a donor vehicle or a Offroad solutions kit.

I'd rebuild, replace OEM or upgrade to a 3.4L, in that order. I'm not a fan of non Toyota swaps, but that is just my opinion.

I'm with Wabbit. Keep it Toyota...much easier and much cooler!

Consider the Toyota 3RZ (2.7L) swap! Lots more power than the 22RE, probably easier than the others to swap since its smaller than your other options, its still Toyota, and like the 5VZ (3.4L) it has the OBDII interface which makes diagnosing problems easy. Did I mention it's still Toyota? Very cool, lots of info on Marlin Crawler's site.

Let us know what happens!

This is waaaaay OT, but do you have a pic of your truck with the 3" BL + 4" suspension on 33's?

I was wanting this amount of lift too and was wondering if 33's would be big enough to make it look right.

hey ovrrdrive, i have the same lift set up, with 35's, it looks pretty good. but in my opinion the tires look just a touch on the baloony side so 33's would probably be right on. you can see in my avatar a little.
