The motor cranks, just wont start

1992 3.0 5 speed 4x4

Cranks, wont start. Of course it decides to start doing this crap 10 miles from my house at a shooting range IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE AND THE TOW TRUCK CANT GET BACK THERE.

So after my Dad pulls me to the main road and decides its a good idea to go ahead and keep pulling me the additional 10 miles home with a tow strap and his 2500, im still stuck with a broken truck and now i really need a damned beer.

Ugh... gooooooooozzzzzzzzzffffrrraaaabaaaaahhhh....

OK, i feel a little better now.

The motor cranks, just wont start.

It has had no starting problems recently, and this came out of the blue.

It had been throwing code 21 (02 sensor, i believe) but the light was going on and off intermitently.

Of course, I could have misread it and maybe its a code 12? Is there a code 12?

I got it at 194k, its sitting at 253k now. The guy said he had all the factory maintenance done at recommended intervals and had reciepts. I think the timing belt was done at 190k?

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor replaced at the same time. I've sinced replaced the plugs, wires, starter, 02 sensor, and the windshield :-p

Help me before I buy my neighbors j**p with a small block chevy in it...

Start with the basics. You need to check if you are getting fuel and spark.

Pull the dist cap off have a look inside. If your rotor is not spinning, then you t-belt has probably snapped.

To run, an engine needs fuel, air, spark and compression. Its a given that you've got air and you probably have compression (unless t-belt has snapped), but spark and fuel are two that you'll likely have to check out. To check spark, get a friend to crank the engine while you hold the spark plug boot up to any grounded metal- you'll see the spark. For fuel, use your nose.

Alright, gonna go to the store and get some beer and get started on this thing.

I don't have the time to do the timing belt myself... whats a ball park estimate on the cost of that?

mine did that and it turned out to be the 80amp fuse on the passengers side fender check that could be as dumb as a fuse you know.
