I have a quesion about Cold air intakes. How does it go about cooling down the air that it pulls in? All it is is an aluminum tube with a filter at the end, how does it cool down the air?

 

I don't really know of any cold air intakes for the 22RE. I would venture to say that the stock air box and plastic tube have cooler air entering the plenum chamber than any intake on the market. I have the Downey intake and by no means is it a cold air intake. The tube is made of metal and it's located right by the radiator as well the filter side located on the exhaust manifold side. On more than one occasion the header has been glowing red hot (so much for cold air). It is better than the stock air box though and the tube diameter is larger than the stock plastic tube, it was cheap and it is SMOG legal. For those who say that intakes are pointless and a waste of money, look at it this way: Ever seen someone port a head and keep the stock sized valves? It is still restrictive but what you did does make a difference though it might be a small difference. Like I said before, every little bit helps and the more you do, the better it will work with other mods (in most cases ). I believe there to be a lot of good in relocating the air box to the passenger side of the engine compartment.

a snorkel would make a good CAI. you could even stick one of those cone filters on it...

water/methenol/nitrous injection all work much better.

 

well now i dont have hardly any power!!!!!! i was coming home from a campin and all the sudone my motors revs really loud and pops (1st thought there went my motor) i get out radio my buddy he turns around we get pokking around and come to find the exhaust pipe snaped in tWo right after the exhaust manifold (past the weld)!! causeing a very obnoxious truck!!!!!! im goin to try and weld it back to gether for now till i have enough money to have it all re done

 

having no exaust will kill your power, i ran open headers for a while after rebuilding my motor and when i got my exaust hooked up, even with a somewhat cloged cat it was night and day difference

 

well i tore into my exhaust today and got it all re welded and reefed down tight.
its much quieter now i was expecting the flowmaster to be much louder but its very nice im impressed

Regearing should be on the list too...especially if your truck came with 29"~ tires.
