Manual Trans Compatibility

What's up guys!

been searching for answers and haven't found one yet..... maybe i over looked it....

anyhow.. my manual trans has either a bad throw out bearing or bad syncros... i have an 86 pick up with a 22RE, 5 speed trans. I have a couple of options... one to get mine rebuilt or two buy a used one.. my question is... which year trucks or 4 runners will i be able to use to do a direct bolt up to my 86?

guess i'm figurin that if i was to buy a used one i would much rather get one that isn't so old with the least amount of miles...

any info or sites you know of that explains all this would be a big help!

thanks!

not quite. He will need the trans from an 84-88 EFI truck, or 84-89 EFI 4Runner (which is a W56)

The later model W56 will bolt in place, but you will have to modify the holes for the shifter, and find new shifters since the newer W56 is forward shifting, and uses a press and turn main shifter instead of a bolt down shifter like the 84-8 style.

Might as well check the throw out bearing before swapping out trannies since you'd better change it anyway.

If you decide to just do a tranny swap I personally would just get one that comes mated with it's respective transfer case. Then if you feel like it in the future you could go duals and have most of what you need. http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/3a.htm Marlin's site also has a lot of info on what needs to be done to convert tcases to fit trannys they didn't originally come behind http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/tra.../tcaseinfo.htm

Why not try replacing your throw out bearing before buying a new tranny? It's not even as hard as replacing a clutch.

I think i figured out what that ringing noise is. I recently re-greased my driveshafts and i think i may have put too much grease and pushed the transfer case trans assembly forward far enough that the 4wd shifter hits the floorpan in turn pushes back the shifter to where it starts to grind gears from 2wd mode to 4hi. It seems also that my clutch needs replacing so i'll definately pick up the clutch kit and change out what i can.

thanks for everyone's input! hey, you guys know where i can info for a 3.4 taco motor swap?
