Looking for a decent and cheap tach.

Been wanting to install a RPM gauge for a while, and was just gonna see if anyone had any suggestions for a decent and cheap one (aint lookin for anything fancy).

Also, how hard is it to install tachs? I've never done anything with gauges before, so this is new territory for me. Oh and what's the redline for a 89 5spd runner? Heard something about 5.5k, but just wanted to make sure...

Buy a used instrument cluster with tach from a wrecking yard. Then the only thing you have to change is the Oil pressure sensor, and it is keeping with factory parts.

The truck is already wired for a tach. If you do a search on here, you will find many people who have changed their 89-95 truck clusters to the tach style.

Aw that'd be awesome. Lol my instrument panel doesn't even have an oil pressure sensor... Thanks for the idea.

I did the swap, not all the trucks are wired for the tach. The gas gauge is not as accurate as the non sr5. Also, make sure your speedometer matches the one you buy. most if not all 89-93 have cable, but some later ones do too. SOme even have a cable and electronic speed sensor in the cluster, but not that many. Youe will want to take yours apart to see what you have before buying one.

I have a couple aftermarket tach's if your interested? $20.00 each -- however, i agree with cougar, i prefer to just replace the cluster with a factory tach.
