little bit of water almost kills truck

when ever i get the engine wet at all it freakin almost dies i can be in first and it will act like 5th. there was a little mud in the airbox last time. After about 15 to 20 minutes of barely running it gets better. what should i do to get it to stop?

It sounds like water may be getting inside your distributor somehow. What engine are we talking about.

How about some specifics. Is this a Tacoma with the 2.4? Or is it older like a 22R? Give us all the info you can and we'll help from there.

It sounds like H20 is finding its way inside your distributor and maybe the ignition coil. Are your plug wires original?

If so, they are probably arcing against each other and that's causing your problem.

Since it's cold now you may have some condensation freezing overnight on your distributor cap. Remove it and spray it with some WD-40, then dry it out with some towels or compressed air.

Make sure to get the good stuff...ie no champions, autolites or bosch. Get some NGK or DENSO plugs and OEM wires. If you can't get the OEM wires a good set of aftermarket should do.

While your at it how about a new cap and rotor? Also, sometimes the rubber boot for the D-cap can trap moisture not allowing it to evaporate.

Right on, pick up a packet of the di-electric grease they usually sell at the counter and smear a dab on the ends of the plug wires where they contact the plugs and the cap.

Anything you can do to help waterproof helps.

I know how UT guys wheel!

It could be di-electric grease but It's probably anti-seize for your plugs.

If it doesn't say then you can ID them.

Di-electric: White or clear, sometimes a brownish tan sticky, sticky grease. Very smooth.

Anti-Seize: Gray, silver or copper colored. Sparkly from the powdered metals suspended in the grease. Very fine, slightly gritty consitency.

Also consider putting some gasket maker on your distributor. I've done it before and it's not difficult to remove, but still keeps water out.
