Angry Great, just great....

Not to good.
Got home from work yesterday and as i got out of my 4runner my two boys come running out to greet me.
My oldest stops in front of my 4runner and asks me how come i have water coming out.
Sure enough i had quite a bit of water coming out from someplace.
I didn't get a chance to see where it was coming from.
I think my water pump is going. Sounds like a bag of marbles on spin cycle:eek:
So i'm thinking of maybe doing a rebuild, timing chain, water pump etc.
Where is the best place to order parts?
Sure wish my 4runner fell under the headgasket program then i could have done it then.

I'm not sure if i'm going to tackle this my self or have someone do it.
Anyone know of a good mechanic here in the Northwest.

Unfortunately as it may sound when it comes to those parts you should only use Toyota dealer parts. I'm not a dealer!! I just bought everything in that area and spent way more than I wanted but I talked to several fleet mechanics and they all agreed that stock parts are needed. Good luck.

Hey Todd,
I saw you had said "rebuilt". 2 Things I never use rebuilt are water pumps and clutches. I have had good luck with NAPA new water pumps (lifetime guarantee).

What engine you running?

Hey there Dave.
I know what you mean about rebuilt parts. I was refering to rebuilding the top end of the motor.
What do you think?
I have 180,000 on the motor right now. Its the 22RE V6.
My mileage is down to around 17 mpg. Seems most people i talk to are over 20 mpg with a 1st gen.

The 22RE is a 4 cyl. Since you say you are not under the recall, I assume it is the 4??

We did my son's with rings, bearings, valve job, injector cleaning, TRD stage 1 cam, cam followers (lifters), timing chain and guides, and new WP. I don't remember how much $$.

I would recommend the DOA timing chain guides. They are steel backed, and don't break ($80).
I would also do pistons and have it bored. We didn't due to shortage of cash, but it turned out OK.
Change the oil pump ($130)

Todd,
Did you install your extended shackles? If so, how did they turn out? Have you heard from anybody that used the helper springs? Thanks, Mark
