Lift kit recommendation?

Lift kit recommendation?

I just bought the 1989 Pickup SR5 of my dreams and want to ditch its 3" body lift for a true suspension lift, front and back.

I'm not sure which brand to go with. I don't need the most aggressive kit ever, but I don't want to waste money on junk. I also want to replace the old rear springs rather than popping in blocks. And I'm looking for the most complete kit.

Here are the few I'm considering. Can anyone recommend one over the others?

Superlift

Pro Comp

If there are other, better options than what I listed, please go ahead and mention them here.

A lot these products have probably been discussed in depth on here before.

I know when it came to lifting my 4Runner I ended up putting together an OME lift.
If it were me - that's what I would go with, hands down.

I honestly don't have much experience with any of the kits you linked to.
I have mixed feeling abouts Pro-Comp though - never had good luck with their products personally.

I would do some research on here about the various kits that people have used and go from there.

If you're not able to find any information that way (you will be, I promise) then post back up and we'll see what we can do.

Sweet truck dude, congrats.
Yea check out that sticky. Just dont put to much money into your ifs. those kits you have posted are way to much. just do bj spacers up front and downey springs in the rear. You realy dont need a lift unless your gonna do a sas. I know a couple who wheels there truck every where with 33's locked frtn and rear with dual cases and the stock suspension. And there is this awsome stock hight truck.

If you want to stick with IFS up front and go 'lesser expensive', ProComp has one of the most 'stout' IFS lifts, if you go stage II... but you'll get stuck with 4" lift up front... then you have to deal with the rear... but please don't opt for blocks.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like none of my initial choices are particularly compelling. I'm surprised no one here can say anything about them -- makes me wonder if anyone even buys those kits!!!

I looked into OME which seems to be the most sensible choice. Thanks for that recommendation, Fink. Funny how the SkyJackers and Ranchos of the world show up immediately on Google, but they get little mention here at YotaTech. Meanwhile the OMEs and Alcans can only be found by digging around this forum, yet everyone here (at least in other threads) swears by them.

I also looked into the 1990 Mini -- totally awesome, thanks for that link! Only catch is that I want to keep my big tires. (Side note: I'm running 33x12.5 with a 3" body lift and still have rub on the right side at full steer. WTF?)

BTW, the suspension sticky for the GenII IFS Pickup focuses mostly on 4Runners, unless I'm missing something. For anyone like me looking for a lift kit that doesn't include a solid axle, the info there doesn't help much.

That's what we're here for - steer you in the right direction.

You're probably still rubbing because of the body lift.
You may look at rethinking the body lift you've got - I would think about taking your current body lift and putting a 1" in its place.
Do that and then adding whatever you want as far as suspension goes and you'll have a much stronger and more stout setup.

That's just opinion though,

Personally I'd stay away from the Procomp lifts. They use tabs to drop the existing front crosmember as opposed to the Skyjacker, Superlift and Rough Country that use a new full length bracket. I do like the idea of the re-enforcing bars that Procomp Stage 2 uses, but the way the lift is designed I don't think it's safe without them. Too bad you couldn't add them to a Superlift kit. The LCE and OME stuff is great if you're only looking for 2" or less, but to go 4" you need a bracket lift if you want to stay IFS.

Not many people around here discuss the IFS options because they usually instantly get flamed if they're not talking about SAS, longs and detroits. It's called web wheeling and it runs rampant around here. There are plenty of people running bracket lifts here.
