I'm guessing something near a 33x12.50, but huge backspacing on the rims

Wouldn't changing it to 4wd take most of travel out of the long travel suspension? I always figured if you wanted alot of travel out of the ifs, you'd want to go with a 2wd.

It is easier to get more travel out of a 2WD system because obviously you don't have to worry about the axles binding up. The solution for 4WD is to go REALLY wide and that causes it's own problems.

But what good is travel if you can't pull yourself over the obstacle to begin with?

Well I'd guess this 4Runner was built as a baja truck. Something for driving fast on desert roads, 4wd really wouldn't be necessary.

Because you're going so fast that momentum carries you over ... and the suspension moves enough to let that happen.

You need to take a look at BruceTS's 4Runner.

just the long travel kit runs close to $2000 from either TC or Downey. Not a bad find for somebody. Maybe it will pop up on here.
