Hey every1, so heres the deal, im thinking of installing a kill switch to the gas pump, to help prevent my truck from being stolen, but im having a little trouble deciding were to put it, for example mi mom has her kill switch on the headlight switch on her explorer, and ive heard of people having them on the lighter or mirror switch, or should i go the other way and hide it all together somewhere under the kickpanel or somewhere.

I would appreciate any ideas!

I was thinking of using the spare 'switch hole' in my center console, next to the rear window switch, if it was not too much extra trouble.

 

Good idea for installing a switch. I kind of like the idea of using the rear heater switch if it can be done. Possibly by deactivating either the high or low setting.

But after thinking about it the passengers in the rear might flip it off in transit. Then there is the option of using this switch to activate another switch/relay which resets the power to the fuel pump when you turn off the car.

 

you might want to keep those kill switch locations secret. they are on there for security and by telling everyone where you have them hidden you lose the purpose. on a side note tjyota, what kind of car does your mom have, i just might need to make a trip to mexico.....

 

Hide the damn thing up under the dash somewhere.

 

Install like 15 three way switches in series and wire them all differently so they have to get the exact combination of switches to start the car.... And then hide another one in the least obvious place ever. That'd just be a killer

 

I used to have mine wired thru the headlight and fog light switch. What thief is gonna turn on the lights to steal a car?

theres many threads on kill switches, please search the forum. but you will not see any diagrams on how to do it, nor people telling you exactly where they put it.

as you've read, there are many suggested ideas. it all comes down to your personal preference, your wiring knowledge, and how easy (or difficult) you want to make this.

head lights or turn signals are way too easy, see those at my chevrolet dealership from time to time. not that hard to figure out, especially if you're a car theif

 

Just pull the EFI relay when you leave the vehicle. Who is going to think of that when they are stealing a car. No thief is gonna pop the hood and search for something wrong.

 

A friend of mine, in a heep, put it in his glove box... the best part is he wired it so then when the switch is on the fuel pump gets no power, but the power is sent to the horn instead, so if you try to hotwire it the horn goes off steady

 

IMHO use a "timer" chip - like the Jacobs box does... there was a FAQ for one of the standard timer chips out there...

Basically - you can start the car - but 30-40 sec later the car stops (cut the ignition)
YOu now have 10 sec to find the switch and restart the car. If you DONT find the switch in 10 sec the car cuts for 5 minuets.

Now - the car was being stolen - its now in the middle of the street attracting all kinds of attention.

Sicne the car started right up - the thief isnt looking for a switch - they are cranking over the motor (which spins but wont catch)...

Most likely they will abandon the car at this point

 

To leave the car to be hit in the middle of the street, or get towed and impounded.

lol, im not going to tell every1 where im going to put it, just looking for idea, I like the idea of putting a bunch of 3 way switches for a combination to start it up!
