key will not come out....

I have tried everything and my key from my DD will not come out...I have had this rig for about two years and I have never had this issue before..

it will start up and shut off {and will almost come out} but, stops at the access. , and will not go all the way to lock and then pull out...

V.....

I've seen this problem at work with Lexus RX300's. Take a SMALL hammer and lightly bang on the key as your turning it off.
Or keep turning it off (access) and on, sometimes you catch it just right, and it will turn to off.

You need a new IGN cylinder.

turn the steering wheel as hard as you can and try to get the key out at the same time.

key out

No don't hammer on it!
I had the same problem with my 94'.
It was the switch under the shift consol out of adjustment.
If the switch doesn't detect the shifter in "park" it will not disengage the cylinder lock pin on the keyswitch.
Pull the plastic console up and try manually actuating the switches before hammering on the keyswitch.

Oh man, I can't tell you how many times I've done that. Being used to driving my 5spd, I forget all about that sometimes when I go to driving my wife's automatic. Talk about instant confusion and panic....AH! WTF!?

This had also happen to me too, tought it was the IGN cylinder but it happen to be the solenoid that is next to the cylinder, it is a square black thing, what I did on mine was I just unscrew the two 4 head screw and yank it out and that solve it, I didn't buy a new solenoid for it so I'll leave it disconnected, and have no problem. dealer want $65 for that solenoid.

not sure how ya'll know his is an auto, he doesnt mention.

not completely un related but i always laugh when people forget to push the button ontop of my console to tur the key to off.

Regardless its funny you're key wont come out since mine slips out regardless of off, on accessory. I usually start my rig, take the key out, lock the doors, go inside, come back 10 mins, lock house, get back in rig and leave, hehehe

I've forgotten my keys in the toolbox (key to toolbox on key chain hehe) more times than id liek to admit !!!

one time i drove quite a few hours with the keys in the toolbox, LOL got to destination, went to turn the rig off and was like "AH %^$%&" ..."oh ya i bet they're in my toolbox lock" ...LMAO ..

*one time i forgot them at home.. got to work and had no keys LOL

Nobody with an auto really likes to admit it. So, by his inadmission it's a safe assumption....I guess. Ha!

Really, though, I have no idea and don't pretend to. I just thought it was funny shoes brought it up because I've done it sooo many f'cking times myself. Habits...

BTW, I can do that with my key on my '86, too. It's actually kind of convenient....lol.

No key

Back in the 80's when I worked at a Honda shop,... my boss had a little brown 76'Civic that the keyswitch went out on. We only used the car for chasing down parts and running errands, and he didn't think the car deserved a new 85.00 switch. So I put a toggle switch for ignition, and pushbutton start right in the dash. Damn that was convenient!
He didn't really care if it was ever stolen. Funny thing was it never did get stolen.

If it's an Auto try giving the shift lever a slap forward, it might release the key.

well, i took the console out and it was that switch, plastic swtich under the shift lever....plastic was worn out and not actuating when the rig was put in park....[have to order it and get another]...I can use a screw driver until then to actuate it and get my key out for now...

thanks for the help I would have never figured it out with out your help and my battery was going dead fast with the key in the access. position...

good day......!

key out

Hey vdog,
it's been some time since I did mine, but I seem to remember that you could adjust the switch or actuator.
