AFM = air flow meter, its the thing mounted to the air filter box with the electrical plug on it. I don`t know if you will see gains similar to adding a header, but you will get better acceleration and you will have more power on the highway climbing hills or passing.

So my guess was right, I was wondering what that plug was for! So in order to do this do you need to relocate your airfilter as well? You and irab have picked
my interest tonight. Better acceleration uphill would be nice,
maybe then I wouldn't get passed by semis. Lol. I guess the oldsaying you learn something new everyday is true.

I see your truck has an automatic transmission, that in it self is hurting your power output a lot. The AFM upgrade and a header and exhaust would help you a lot, if you have larger than stock tires regearing will also help a lot. I just took the larger AFM off of my 4Runner because im getting ready to put on a 90 22RE upper intake, and do the battery / intake swap. The 90 22Re upper intake has better air flow than the early upper intake because its not angled.

The intake setup has absolutely nothing to do with heater output. I've been running with my intake swapped for a few years, year round and my heat has been completely normal. I also have no PAIR and no EGR (though I should have kept the EGR, but that's another story entirely)

Check your coolant level, thermostat, and heater valve.

also, coolant stuff is fine, so no issue there

Huh. Is the heat in your truck good? I mean, I can be in shorts and short sleeves in the dead of winter in my truck with the heat on and it still gets too hot inside.

And if it took a while to get up to temperature, sounds like the t-stat sticking open. Anyway, glad to hear it's working well for ya.

yeah, i think it was a bit too chilly for me for a bit. the heater works well and all.

another thing to consider with this mod (in general) is that more air can flow around the block, without the intake hose in the way

i'll check it out. it seems as if things are slowly breaking. the fill bolt on the trany is stuck now, and the new cat i ordered is 4.5" too short

LOL, I try not to make a habit of it either, but sometimes I don't feel like changing before leaving the gym if I'm just going straight home.

Didn't finish reading the rest of this thread, but I saw a couple people wondering if the AFM would be fine mounted upside down. I just got finished rebuilding and fixing mine and don't worry, it will be fine upside down.

Bringin it back to life!!lol

How is it still holding up? Still liking the changes?
I am still thinking about doing this. It doesn't seem like it could hurt anything.

it make accelerating at-speed a bit better, and it sounds cool. you can put your hand next to the filter and actually feel the air being sucked in. i like it, but i wish i had gone with black fittings instead of red.

also, since you have an earlier model, the air conditioning lines won't stick up like mine. this means you might be able to get away with fewer fittings and a longer filter. i still need to build a brace for mine, but it works just fine. definitely worth it. took me a weekend, probably less if you have all the parts ready to go

Do you have a shopping list of hoses and pipe?
I dont have to fit in the AFM so length isn't much of an issue

i'm puzzled as to why you wouldn't need an afm

in any case, what would probably work for you would be:

-a 90 degree 3" to 2.75" silicone elbow
-a 3" aluminum coupler

then you would find an air filter that would fit, one with a 3" opening
