Introduction

Just wanted to say hello to all. Picking up a 4Runner that lost a battle to a telephone pole. It will be my first 4Runner and first Toyota for that matter. We have had an Isuzu Trooper the last 3 years and loved it but wanted something a little smaller and more fuel efficient with lower miles for longer trips and some light off-roading.

Looking forward to the new project and will probably be scouring the forums for information and parts. Its a 95 sr5 with the 3.0L engine. We are in central Pa so there is some rust but nothing really rotten yet. Thanks in advance for all the information that already out as well as any advance advice. If someone wouldn't mind posting a link to a good full service manual that would be great.

Welcome to Yotatech. I have found a lot of useful information on here when I did my 86 pickup. I am also finding alot of info for my 87 4runner. There are many knowledgable people in here when it comes to toyotas, so if you can't find it, I am sure someone can assist you with it.

Thanks for the welcomes, good luck on your project take. The one I'm getting has a loud tap as well, seems like its somewhat common. I remember the first time I saw cherry red when I opened the hood of a car. I had just chipped my 97 A4 Turbo Quattro, could have toasted marshmallows over the turbo it looked so stinking hot.

Ohh yeah, after I rebuilt the motor in my 86 the tapping drove me crazy. It took me about 2 weeks of driving and adjusting valves and the timing to get it where I was happy.

Yeah, that tap going to drive me crazy, luckily its going to be winter and I have no garage :-) It did sit for a couple months so maybe its just stuck. Will put some synthetic in and get some miles on it maybe it will self correct.

The tick or tap is most likely the Fuel Pressure Regulator. They tick like a SOB. Injector tick also, but not as loudly.
