Unhappy insurance went up because of age of the truck.

So the insurance this year is up $70+ bi-yearly. I called and asked and they said it was for a DUI and the gas station I blew up. They were wrong and checked again and it was the fact that it's a 1992. They said a 1995 would be cheaper.

Hmmm maybe I should get that FJ...any used ones yet?

only one DUI? weak. what kind of an alcoholic are you?And how did you blow up a petro station? in my state,im petitioning to the state to allow certain drivers to drive above the legal lmit of 0.08.if they pass a road course while under the influence.if you pass such course for example at .14,then you're certified to drive at that level...wish me luck

Feel that? It's yor rectum getting stretched by your insurance carrier. I don't know about you but the fact that my vehicles are old (a 1990 Toyota4x4, 1972 Chevy C-20 pickup, 1969 Dodge Super Bee) they are all three cheaper to insure..full coverage...than my wife's '04 Magnum wagon.
Change carriers or demography

I got cheeper insurance due to the fact that the car has SRS. I think that it is because the safty regulations are more strict on the newer cars.

You gotta do the math in your own instance, but soon there comes a time where it makes no $en$e to carry full coverage on an older vehicle.

Even though you insurance rates may go down, but especially if your rates are going up, you can estimate that you'll only get at most 75% of the Blue Book value, less your deductible, of your vehicle if it is ever totaled.

On older vehicles, that means any little accident may cause your insurance company to consider your vehicle totaled and try to offer you peanuts for your vehicle, leaving you with the option of either settling for those peanuts and saying bye-bye to your vehicle, or not settling, but instead paying the salvage fee and fixing it on your own dime.

You gotta do the math to see if carrying full coverage will end up costing you.

That assumes you elect to file a clame. Some wont let you carry compreshive without collision. Perhaps i want the ablity to get $$ back if some ahole steals my truck.

If you look at the premium breakdown, the extra charge for "full coverage" is not much. It's the liability portion that kills you. For the few dollars, unless it's a $1000 beater full coverage is worth having.

Someone already mentioned this, but I also found out (on an Isuzu Trooper) that my 94 was more expensive to insure than a 95 because SRS was installed in 95. Incidentally, that alone brought the NHTSA crash rating from a 1 to a 4 because there were no other modifications made between those years

So I definitely think that's probably the reasoning behind it.

- an 89 4Runner compared to a 97 Audi A4 is apples to oranges so to speak. I'm sure her tickets and accidents make a big difference but if you were to insure her vehicle I bet your insurance would skyrocket.

While we're whining about insurance I want to join in

I remember when I was 16 I wrecked the 95 Del Sol I had less than a week after I switched insurance companies. OK, so maybe I also had 3 tickets within 6 months of getting my license. After that my insurance cost roughly $400 a month!. Oh well, I've been with the same company for 10 years now and we've both gotten our share

I turned 25 last May and thought I would finally get my supposed "discount" that I've always heard about in NC. WRONG! My insurance went up $20/yr. Mind you I have the minimum required by law. Not enough to cry over, but I guess inflation is a b*tch!

From what I can comprehend from my policy, instead of an age requirement for a "safe driver" they no longer go by age; rather the # of years without any "incidents"

Now that you guys mention it, I'm going to go over to Nationwide and see how much full coverage would be on my vehicle...does anybody know if collision covers off-road rollovers?

Full coverage on my 85 and 87 would be foolish...on the 85 I'd NEVER get back anything close to what it is worth and no one will insure it for full value anyway...and the 87 is the same...somebody steals it and I'm just SOL...and if I catch them...they are.

Insurance screws you over period. I pay less than $100/month to insure the 85 and 87 liability and the 01 Sienna full coverage no deductible.

just a thought, are you able to have your vehicles appraised for replacement value for the mods that have been done to it? we have a few insurance providers here in ontario that are offering pretty decent coverage to the off road crowd. seeing as how mine is still pretty much stock im ok for now, i will be looking into this coverage when my policy comes up for renewal in april.
