ifs cv studs?

Do I need to remove two studs, to get at the cv's off,on the trail or should I remove all of them, and replace these with bolts?

No, it's a bit of a pain, but you can squeeze it past all the bolts. Unlock the other axle hub, or shift the transfer case to 2hi. It helps a great deal to be able to spin the stub shaft when weaseling the thing out of there. I wouldn't know for sure about which kind of bolts, sounds like a cool idea though. It'd be tough knockin' those studs out, I've done it, no fun. Maybe it would be advantagous in certain circumstances. Oh, I have to remove the lower shock mount bolt to get mine out, so don't be too suprised there.

You could just press them out and instead of getting new bolts, use a bench grinder to take the ridges off the studs so that they slide in and out easy.

You can do it with the studs.

I have bolts.

I have watched both ways changed on the trail. Studs took about an hour.

Bolts took 12 minutes, start to finish.

Its a time thing, and and ease of use thing. You can do it both ways, but the bolts are significantly easier.

I just remove the four bolt on the lower balljoint. That gives me enough clearance to get the CV axle out with all the studs in place.

I replaced mine with bolts.

M12-1.25x30mm IIRC

Get a bunch, because that size is also used for the brake calipers, front diff mounts, crossmembers and a couple other things!
