Test it and see if it can be properly adjusted. If not, then you know it is bad and needs to be replaced:

The idle should not be hunting from 600-850. it should be all but rock solid.
so maybe now that the conditions are different, a timing check and idle adjustment are once again in order. and then a cursory check for more vacuum leaks.
Well obviously the idle should not wander at all. I dont have a timing light at my disposal (yet...hehe) so thats not gonna happen right away. As for idle adjustment, if my idle is wandering then how is adjusting the idle itself gonna do anything?

I'm thinking about buying one off ebay since they're $5, though they're $170 at the local parts shop? wtf.

Should I maybe try adjusting it instead though?
Call your local napa, they have denso tps sensors for $90. That is assuming yours cannot be adjusted first

Jay, i am in the same boat still. Mine idles anywhere from 500-600. Im going to check the timing again this weekend, hopefully. I let you know how that works, eventhough i read you cannot set the timing right without a properly functioning tps.

Jay, if you find your problem, will you let me know.

With a bad TPS or no timing jumper installed, base timing is around 12 BTDC vs. the 5 BTDC with the jumper and TPS working.

is that for a 22re? I believe the 3vze are supposed to be at 10 BTDC. I run out side and double check that.

After checking. The 3vze is supposed to be at 10' BTDC with the jumper installed with and idle speed of 800 rpms

Well, I wont be able to get a timing light till next week at the earliest.
I am totally not interested in touching this damn truck for awhile.... I have delt with this idle problem for over a year and a half.

I guess when I get a timing light I will check the timing with the connectors jumped and not jumped..

Jay - I'm gonna do some digging for you today and I'll report back if I find anything.

my truck is having kinda the same problems, i.e. i went wheeling today and the second half of the trip my tack read almost 0! So i think the o2 sensor may be part of the problem cause mines not even attached. so maybe yours went bad too

I actually tested the o2 sensor ( I have a replacement NTK but I cannot remove the old one!) and it tested perfect..

I have narrowed the problem down to (I think) a bad TPS wire. The VC (IIRC) wire from the ECM to the TPS is reading little continuity on my Ohm meter.
I scraped off some of the insulator on the vc wire before each connector. I then attached a test wire from the ECM side to the TPS side.

This yeilded a very smooth idle, and the idle dropped with the Te1 and e1 connectors.
So I found this out over a month ago, and I have still not fixed it. Im honestly not too excited to remove the metric assload of parts to get wiring harness open enough so I can replace that single wire.
Anyone wanna do it for me?

I also want to note I have still not checked the timing, I totally forgot.
