I hear you, the damn tps is driving me nuts.
And the dumb toyota stealership that is local, didn't have the screws needed, and my lower screw is starting to strip. Oh well, ill put up with it for now i guess.

My toyota stealer was able to order the screws I needed in one afternoon.. At over a buck fifty they live up to their stealer name
That bottom screw nearly stripped completley, I had to take off the throttle body and really giver to get it out...

Yea 4crawler i considered the switch, but we have these curved phillips screwdrivers that worked well untill the lower screw wouldn't budge and started stripping, so i stopped.
Anyways, next time i take that darn thing off i might just get the allen screws

well, I removed the TB yet again since I cannot fit my feeler guages into the right spot with it installed.. Im assuming bench testing is okay...
Im really not 100% sure how to work this multi meter so I will tell you guys what im getting.
Using the 3vze adjustment table on 4crawlers page http://4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml
I am getting: (meter set on 20k range)
Test 1: .63 on my meter - 630 ohms if Im correct. 200-800 is accepted
Test 2: With .508mm feeler guage I cant get a set reading. It varies from .25 to 1.39 on my meter. Depending where I set the probes..
Test 3: With a .762mm feeler guage I get 1 . on the meter
Test 4: WOT I get 4.66 on my meter.
Test 5: 5.95 over the whole throttle range...
So, can anyone make sence of this? I need to get this working and put back on before tonight...

1.___ is likely the infinite reading, easy check, hold meter red probe in right hand, black probe in left hand, and with hands apart, see what the meter reads.

Holding probes apart yeild the same 1 . reading. So this is open/infinint right?
I read your whole page on the TPS and how to use a multi-meter. I got everything BUT Test 2. Im still confused as I cannot get a set reading. Right now im getting (finally) a set reading of 0.02 on my meter. So is this acceptable?

also...dont forget to do the sweep test,it isnt in the fsm, but a quick search on yt should help... I cant remember which terminals you are supposed to use, but it should be a smooth and even increase on the meter as u open the throttle. not say 1, 2 , 5, 4,6,...etc...should be 1,2,3,4,...etc

Yep, did the sweep test, it tested good. (Vcc and e2 connectors)
It started to rain so I had to get the truck back together. I went on a limb and decided my tests were good so I installed everything.
At cold idle, tps plugged in and the te1 and e1 bridged I got a drop in idle. Once it warmed up there was no drop in idle when the connectors were bridged... Seems like im going in circles here...
I have not driven the truck yet, I have air in the cooling system again (top rad hose hot, bottom cold) so im going to burp the system once the engine cools down. I will then take it out for a drive..

0.02 reading = 0.02K = 20 ohms.
0.02K is less than (<) 2.3K, or 20 is less than 2300, 0 is less than 2300, 2299 is less than 2300, anything less than 2300 is OK.

May be good at the TPS connector but are the wires back to the ECU good?
And may be something else, bad ECU temperature sender, etc.

Hey jay, This might sound really stupid, but
Yesterday i changed out all my plugs, and did a compression test. (150 psi in all cyl, im soo stoked!!!!) anywho, after i got all my plugs in, the tps problem that i thought i was experiencing basically went away, no more hesitation or anything.
So i went for a test drive, noticed how much better it pulled.
Anyways, back to the story. So as im driving around when in neutral i noticed that its idling at 200-400 rpms. SO i was starting to think about what i screwed up now. I was driving and coasted into a gas station and it died on me. SO i drive back home and up to my grandfathers house and i was telling him about it, and i said ill have to take a look at it when i get home. He says "no pop the hood here and we will take a look"
Sorry for the rambling, but he noticed a whistling sound and said its a vacuum leak. I had forgot to clamp the air box down with those three clamps
Connected that up along with another line, and now it idles at about 700rpms
Thinking back, maybe you have a vacuum leak???

Hehe, well I might aswell come out and say it. When I was wheeling my intake popped off a little and cuased a pretty bad leak right at the throttle body.
That fixed my low idle but the tps still seemed like a problem. In anycase truck drives great... Idle is still varing from 600-850rpm. But thats fine.. Im pretty sure the o2 sensor is not helping things.
Congrats on gettin that problem fixed
Nothing like driving your truck when its all tuned up and running good.

well, not to rain on your parade, although I'm sure the satisfaction is worthwhile... and well deserved.
The idle should not be hunting from 600-850. it should be all but rock solid.
so maybe now that the conditions are different, a timing check and idle adjustment are once again in order. and then a cursory check for more vacuum leaks.

Unhooking my TPS has caused my problem and occasional stalling to cease.
I'm thinking about buying one off ebay since they're $5, though they're $170 at the local parts shop? wtf.
Should I maybe try adjusting it instead though?
