Idle hangs after new engine install

Well I just replaced my blown motor with a used but good one from a friend. The swap went smoothly and it fired right up so thanks to you all for your help with that! Now it runs fine and idles great (if a bit high) but the idle hangs up between shifts. It will come down to normal after a few seconds but if I shift a 3000 rpm, the idle will stay at 3000 rpm until I engage the clutch in a different gear or until I wait a few seconds for it to come back down. Other than that everything is great. Any suggestions??
Thanks
Andy

Dashpot maybe? Pictures down in thread of what I'm talking about, might not look exactly like yours. Will give you the genearal idea. See if you can get to do it in the driveway and see if you can push throttle back by hand from under hood. If it stops, then dashpot. Keep us posted, could be other things.

I checkd into that but thats not it. The throttle snaps back nicely but it seems that with the throttle body closed, it still revs high for a few seconds. Any other ideas? Almost sounds like a vacuum leak but why would it stop like that?

Have you unplugged TPS and start it up to see if it does the same thing?

02 sensor good shape?

Sounds like something altering the fuel mix via computer.

I agree with JEBSR5; sounds like dashpot. You would barely be able to see it in use.

Some ECUs keep the idle up between shifts to minimize jerking during clutch back on; do ours do that?? the new Yota's do...

What does the TPS control actually? I had the truck running while I was jiggling the TPS and the idle was fluctuating. I think the connection was bad but I have yet to drive it. So if the TPS was unhooked, what would happen? I got no CEL, and everything but the hanging idle was fine. Thanks

" I was jiggling the TPS and the idle was fluctuating."

Where you actually moving the TPS or were you jiggling the connection?

Sorry, I was jiggling the connection. And I should clarify that when I disconnected the TPS nothing changed as far as I could tell but when I kinda forced the connection, the idle dropped a few hundred rpms.

Last time mine did this and I was sure it was the dashpot, it was a dirty butterfly valve in the throttle body.

A little PB Blaster and a rag and its been fine since.
