I didnt quite have the best luck in the rain last night, I ended up crashing my truck down a 15ft ditch rolling over twice. The roof held up very well, only the front part caved in above my windshield about 3-4 inches, the rest of the roof is solid. The front bumper broke through my radiator, the hood and fenders are trashed. The motor seems to be fine, it doesnt look like it has been hit, I have not tried to fire it up yet because I'm not sure if that would hurt it or not, it was upside down for about 5-7 hours. What I wanted to know, is whats the best way to go about this. Should I A.Get the frame and body damage inspected, and possibly repaired? B. Sell it off for parts. Or C. Buy another same year 4runner that had a blown motor, and swap my motor into it. The motor, transmission, and clutch have nearly 5,000 miles on it, so I'd like to keep all that and swap it into another 4runner. What do you guys think?

Man... that really sucks. Sounds like no one got hurt which is good.

I am sure you will get a lot of responses, but be sure you pull the plugs and turn the engine over to evacuate the oil since it was upside down for so long.

Triple check nothing got pushed into the engine compartment before things start spinning.

 

Ugh, yea.. that's totalled. I wouldn't worry about the estimate - just what they offer you for it.

Ask what it will cost to "buy back".

If you're going to turn it over, remove the plugs first.. If there is any oil, etc, in the cylinders, you don't want to hydrolock.

And as stated above, pule the plugs and turn over, and make sure there is no interferience in the pullies and such...

 

There have been several threads on what to do if the truck is rolled. First thing is to drain/refill all the fluids, then pull the plugs and crank it to blow anything out of the cylinders, then put them in and start it. Keep an eye on the coolant and oil, and change after about 500 miles.

 

I suggest pulling the motor and swapping it into a vehicle with no damage at all. (Option C)

 

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately I dont have full coverage, insurance will give me nothing. I like the idea of option C but it seems like a whole lot of work and trouble finding everything. I was thinking I would just sell it as is, or as parts and buy a new rig. I'm still not sure, opinions are appreciated.

chop off the roof..put roll cage on it. make it a trail only truck.

 

Pull out the sawzall and start cutting.

If it was me I would try to buy it back and sell some parts to invest in a another runner AND a bender,...... looks like an Exo should be the next mod.

 

first off I would think the man upstairs that I was given the chance to have these opitions. find a other truck and put your stuff in it.

 

ummmm find a runner w/ a bad enigine for under 1grand and swap over what ever you want. or part out and cut your losses.

Invest in a REALLY good buffing wheel

 

Pretty easy, just pull the master clutch cylinder and pedals out of your crushed 4runner and put them into the good one. You know Yota's are the best...do the swap, don't sell it.

 

Like i said i have a really good shell. 150 bucks plus 35 dollar title tranfer fee. It includes good windshield no cracks or chips, back windows. No dent or damage from what i can see. the interior is stipped out, no fenders or doors or hood, has opening for factory power sunroof. Zip code is 98270. And the transfer fee is cause my buddy who owns the 4runner is an car dealer and he has to transfer the title to you. Let me know, before we take her to be smashed up for scrap metal.
