How to tell...

How can you tell if your truck came with a specific option; example sunroof. I have the VIN number but after using a few free VIN decoders I was not able to find the options. Would it be easier to call Toyota about a 30 year old truck?

Just what are you looking for??

Your trying to see if something you have is factory or aftermarket ??

You call Toyota about a 30 year old truck unless you get really really lucky you might talk to someone that was alive back then

Yes I am looking to see if it came with a factory sunroof or if it was installed as an aftermarket unit. But using a vin locator has not helped in my search

A picture or two might help. Many know what a factory roof looks like, including me.

Base models never had factory sun roof.
Sr5 always have a sun roof.
Dlx can have any sr5 features as options.

The old Toyota brochure is available online for a small fee/donation. You'll find the option list in these, and the website via Google he changed domain names recently..

Trim package is on the build tag, you can look these up in online parts catalog (the old style ones, before Toyota made the dealership switch to what they use now)

And yes pictures!

yeah, no. factually incorrect. i own an '87 4runner without a sunroof that IS an sr5 (verified via VIN). there are very few features that all sr5s have. one might be a tachometer.

from the photos, i don't believe that is a factory-installed sunroof. the handle/latch is different from the standard toyota version, which i have on my '88 sr5.

I'm sure with the right seal that could be good as new. Probably cheaper than welding in a plate and repainting.
