How to shorten the top?

I was wondering how you shorten the top on a 1st gen? I still need to cover the back seat and be enclosed. Can you make it a removable enclosure soyou can still use all the storage room? Please help me out with this. I would like to do thid to my runner.

Thanks

Personally, I'd just freehand it. Carve out the shape you want, then worry about the details like wires, cover, and structural integrity.

a shortened cap and tonneau cover would be badass. Is it your only cap? What are you going to do about the back window?

I recommend not using the sawzall on glass, it doesn't work so well. I know this from personal experience.

Seriously though, search "4Runner+ chop" and there will be several like minded people who also like desecrating 4Runners.

unless you bob it like the one above, there is no need to really chop it in my opinion. the top comes off anyway. or maybe i'm confused on what you're asking ha

What i want to do is leave the "bed" the same length and shorten the top to come behing the roll bar. Then I have an open bed behind with a tailgate. I have found a few things out there to help. Just wandering if anyone has done this before.

Welcome to Yotatech.

Go to Pirate4x4.com and search the Toyota 4Runner/PickUp forum.
Read but don't post this question over there or you will be sorry.
There are several bobbed and chopped threads over there with lots of pictures.

No pics at the moment, but I've taken one of my spare tops and cut it right along the rear side glass lines. Makes it perfect for mountainbike shuttles and the extensions also protect the Runner's rails from pedal and shuttle gnar.
Got to dig the top from out of it's winter storage to
