How many gallons (sorry if this is a repeat)

Sorry if this is a repeat, I did a seach but only found something for the 3rd generations.

How about the 2nd generation 4runners? My 92 manual says it holds 17.3 gallons. Same with my old 90 4r.

The gas guages are obviously different in every vehicle, my 90 would go below empty and I never put in more than 15 gallons. Now on my 92, as soon as the needle hits the empty mark, the light comes on and I am very close to being out of gas. As soon as the light comes on and I fill up, I can always get at least 17 gallons in the tank. I can only go about 30 miles once the guage hits the 1/4 mark.

So has anyone been able to put more than 17.3 gallons in their tank? How much more?

My brother had an 85 pickup, I can't remember what the manual says the tank holds, but he can put in 2 more gallons above what is rated. I wonder if you can squeeze 19 gallons into a 2nd gen 4runner.

No way, 17.3 gallons is what it holds. I think the most I've ever put in is like 16.5 gals.

I was talking about his pickup which is only rated at like 12 or 13 gallons. He can put in about 2 more gallons than what the book says it holds.

Now about the 4runners, that's why I'm asking. I have put in almost 17 gallons once, and the light had been on only for about 10 miles. I guess on mine, there isn't much room for error. When that light comes on, I've got less than a gallon left.

it depends on shortbed vs longbed, extended cab, and 4x2 vs 4x4.

The 92's come with 2 different gas tanks. if your vehicle came with 225's then you have the 17.2 gal. If it came with 31's then you have an 18.8 gal. And thats straight out of the manual.

Read the manual? now there's an idea. Why didn't I think of that. LOL

Actually I don't have a manual for my 92 and I don't recall exactly what the one for the 90 said, I figured they were both the same as far as fuel capacity, I'm wrong again. Nice to know that maybe I'm have at least an 18 gallon tank. Every little bit helps when you out on a trail.

My extended cab has taken 17.9 at the highest, and it is a 4banger DLX, did not have 31's new. My manual says it has a 17 gallon tank, I was a little nervous.

do the 4runners have different tanks than the pickups? i wouldnt imagine so. my 92 22re shortbed 4x4 that came with 225's (i think) i swear has a 15 gal. tank, or at least something close to that. i think the most gas i ever put in the tank was just over 15.4 gallons. So i have no idea because acording to the following:

My 1992 Owner's Manual Truck; under "Fuel Tank Capacity" (page 99) says:
2WD: Short WheelBase - 13.7 Gal
Others - 17.2 Gal
4WD: Short WheelBase - 17.2 Gal
Others - 19.3 Gal

Ok i can appreciate the numbers but how did you come to that conclusion?? That would actually sound about right in my truck's case, but. . . . where did that "15.7" come from??

My truck uses 17.0-17.3 gallons when I fill up. That's about 65 liters. I believe my truck has a 73 liter tank if I recall from reading the manual which is about 19 gallons or so.

15.7 came from my head. Im trying to remember the number out of my manual. Its 15.something for 4x4 short beds, and 13.something for 4x2 short beds. then if i remember correctly ext. cabs are 17.3.

gas

even when my light comes on in the runner (stock 31s) i can only at best get 16 gals in so i have 2 gals when ther light comes on but thats nothing for a truck that gets 12.5 mpg w/o using the a/c and its hot here so the a/c is on and mpg is going to hell (my guess 10-8.5)
