How far can the 3.0 go?

If you're planning on buying a crate 2.3 you might be suprised to find you can get a Vortec 350 for not much more. I have a 96 Chevy p/u with the Vortec 4.3 and I went to the dealer to inquire about a crate 4.3 to replace mine when it goes, and I found out the 350 is actually less money.

Previous owner did the belts and WP at 240K. Beyond that, I have no idea what's been done

197,000 on my 92 4RUNNER.
I called Toyota and found the HG recall was done at 81K in 1998.
The timing belt cover has magic marker written on it saying the timing belt was also changed at 81K. If it was replaced after I don't know. So it is on my list of things to do. 116K on the timing belt seams a bit much since the recommended interval is 60K.

My 89 had 297,000 miles on it when it was stolen. It ran great requiring no oil between fill ups. It had the heads done in the high 180,000's. I had the 5 speed, 33's, and 4.88's.
My current truck, a '94 has 140,000 on it, it's an auto with 4.88's. The heads have been done. We'll see how she holds up.

I had the headgaskets replaced under the recall at about 64,000 miles. The replacement headgaskets just let go this week at 201,500 miles. That's not too bad i guess since nothing major was damaged that the stealership could see. Seems to run fine now.
