home brew 3.0 snorkel w/pics

Ok, so I have collected all my stuff for my dual battery install yet had NO room for a 2nd battery. I had been researching snorkels for awhile and not finding a whole lot with the 3.0 so I though I post what I came up with.

It all started from... well, starting over.

All right, don't know if this has been done of not before. I went on the hunt for a replacement air box, home depot, northern tools, a few plumbing supply houses and finally ended up at a Pick n Pull. Not a lot of room to work under these hoods, but I found the air box out of 1990 Toyota camery fits my MAF perfect and its compact. All I had to do was hack of a small portion of the lower intake to accomidate my second battery.

Break out the ole heat gun and start fabing / addapting to the Camery air box.

All the piping i used was class 200 2 1/2 PVC. I went ahead and bent me up a section for the TB and got it were i wanted it. One of the bolt holes lined up perfect at the stock location for the air box.

The rest is pretty much like a big lego set. Made the hole and ran my plumbing.

Hope someone benefits from this, I apologize if the pics are to big.
Please be gentle as this is my first ever "right up".

Wow that looks great! What's at the end of the snorkel? You should put an inlet hood or a prefilter on.

Nice job!

hey not too bad. Problem is if you're getting into water deep enough to need the snorkel.... your valve cover "breather filter" will take on water and you're gonna get water in your oil.

Also, to clean up where the pvc comes thru the fender buy some plumbing vent flashing and pull off the rubber seal. Then just slide It down over the pipe down to the fender. Check out my snorkel thread for reference.

Thanks man, your right up was a great blue print for me
I am a plumber, so I went to a supply house and picked up a 3" "studor vent" also know as an air admittance valve. I took out the inards. cant see but any water would have a hard time gettin up in there.
Oh, and I'm almost done building my water alarm that will set in the bottom of the air box. Yea, an alarm will sound in the cab if water invades my box

Thanks!

I put a thermometer inside mine and have contemplated a water alarm. I did put a light in the box so I can see what's in there. I've had really good luck with mine. Like Vitaly mentioned about the breather you might extend that.

This is very true. I still have a little punch list of things to do. Thst being one of them. Straping the tubing in fender, sealing the box a little better etc etc.
Thanks

yes. space is a limiting factor, so the camery air box was a 2fer because i could mount my stock MAF on the box. $15 at the PnP

I had to move the intake to fit a 2nd battery, might as well install a snorkel
