well i have a 40-series, 3 chamber on my 98 4runner with the 3.4l. it's the 2.5-incher. it sounds good, as it doesn't sound "ricey" and it has a deep little rumble to it. it also seems to mellow out when up to highway speeds. just my 2 cents...

I had a Jardine cat-back system a while back and it added a little spunk to my 22re, but the sound was a little bit ricey so if you aren't into that, don't buy it. It was a very nice fit and arrived at my door shipped for $250 from Performance Parts, and I was able to install it back then when I didn't have the first clue about working on ANY vehicle. I did it with a few crescent wrenches, wd40, a hack saw, and pliars lol. Boy do I wish I knew how to weld back then

Pipe size:
3.0 - 2.25" seems to be the all around best size
22re - 2" is a good size, lots of guys go to a 2.25" though.
You dont want headers so you want a little extra pipe.
Im running a magnaflow highflow cat and a flowtech redhot (glasspack) very deep sound up to around 2500rpm, gets VERY VERY loud after that. A tad "wet fartish". Im going to a magnaflow muffler soon

Mine was also 2.25, worked way better than stock, helped with a little grunt, and a small dose of gas mileage, and a way better idea than getting just a new muffler installed. Exhaust shops won't charge all that much to bend up a cheap simple exhaust unless you want everything to be high quality material, custom bends, motor swaps etc.
