Help name this seal!?!

Hey guys. Just swapped out a bad tranny on my 87 4runner sr5. Well I'm having a leaking issue with the new one. It's coming from the part where you bolt the rear axel to the tranny. It leaks behind the spindle. Is there a seal in their I can replace and if so what's it called. I took the spindle off of the old bad tranny and someone had red sealant in it. Can I replace the seal or should I just go ahead and use the red sealant like they did on the old tranny? Thanks guys!

Yours isn't 4x4? I did something similar and did a "How To". Got to my build thread, page 1, scroll half way down. I replaced the transfer case output seal.

If you post some more info I can get you a break down. I am assuming this it the transfer case, MT or AT?

Here is a breakdown of the early type TC.

If there is a seal there, it will be called an output shaft seal.

Also where could I buy the seal? Do I have to go to dealer or does anyone know if parts store would have them?

Tell him its the transfer case output seal. Just print out that picture and show the guy and he should be able to find it. If not, try the dealership, he'd definitely have the part.

So I picked up the supposed seal from advance. I didn't like how they were different. The new one metal and smaller, versus the old rubber and thicker. So I called the toyota dealer and ordered it. 9.38 was the total. Should be here he said no later than Tuesday. What do you guys think about these seals from advance? Think it would have worked?
